The evil penguin Famiclone is a beloved one because the red light eyes. /vr/ used to have quite enjoyable Famiclone threads. I did play a fuckton of Contra, SMB1, F-1, and Sky Destroyer on it. Good fun.
Didn't know that the last two were never released on NES in the west, only on FC.
The AC adapter broke (overheated IIRC) when I was visiting family in Trinidad, so we ended up using batteries.
When the batteries ran low, the colors would go crazy. The color RAM would get corrupted or some shit. Played a fuckton of the last level of Contra like that with my cousins because it looked cool as hell.

I remember in the 2000s, malls in the states used to sell these particular famiclones. I think it had to do with the fact that Nintendo's patent on the NES expired and were legal to be freely sold in developed countries, not to mention a lot of 'legal', famiclones are rather polished looking, such as the "Famulator". Shame that most famiclones are the shitty NOAC ones and not accurate hardware clones.

Did anyone have a "SuperJoy"? It was a controller that plugged right into the TV, and you could plug in another controller (without the integrated system) into it for player 2. Came with the usual 600 or so games in one. It was black I think. Mom bought it for me at a flea market/swap meet cause she knew I liked old games. I never got anything like a Famiclone with a 10,000-in-1 cart or anything like that. I had one with strictly custom games on it. The controller had a steering wheel in the center of it. I think it ran on NES hardware, I know it was made in the early 2000s.

It had an overhead kart game where you jumped over ramps and collected money bags, a whack-a-mole game, a fishing game copied from Panic Restaurant, a single screen platformer with an orange Kirby lookalike with blue shoes who spat pellets and collected keys, a mini-game compilation starring a blue and a pink penguin, and a ton more that I forgot about.

I had one of those SNES looking famiclones with 255 games, which were really just 30 or 40 or so with different starting levels or powerups. Adventure Island was totally different when you started with full powerups on each life. It had Tengen Tetris too, which is still what I consider the original. It's the one with the dancing Russians:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yY4xJ1tcAEE

I lost that unit over the years, but luckily I managed to track down one of the same last year. It's weird that I'm hunting down bootleg consoles and carts, they are super rare to come by, and have more value to me than a €400 copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga due to the nostalgia.
I took it apart for dumping but still haven't put it together... the RCA connectors rusted away and barely make contact, so I have to change those, and the poor "ribbon" cable holding the connectors broke to pieces. Haven't had neither the time or the spare money to repair it really.

another Hungarian here, I had one like that too, but the controllers had shittier d-pads. The turbo A/B were really helpful though.

The machine had a 72-pin cart connector and did not run the yellow cart bootlegs which were really common over here. Internally, it had the built-in games on an actual cartridge, a 60-pin one, soldered on to ribbon cables to a 60-pin cart slot pinout on the motherboard.

Making it have both cart slots available could be a fun project, but it's a PAL machine and I don't really give a shit about any NES games beyond playing the ones on this for nostalgia.
