Something that always bugged me is how incredibly different the art looked back then compared to how homogenized it became in the future. Were people more accepting to different art styles back then and decided "generic anime" was the way to go in the future? Its like someone flipped a switch in the late 90s and even old artists making unique stuff depicted in the thread dialed back their own unique artstyles. Its a real shame. You can tell its Japanese, but it doesn't look "anime"

Anime-style art, no. That's all for spergs who jerk over the same shit. The days of anime for kids are dead. Its more an /a/ problem than a /v/ problem but its all samey because its mass produced waifus for otaku.

It's the same with movie posters. Basically, Photoshop came and hand drawn art dissapeared because now it's easier to do art digitally, even if it looks more homogenized and too perfect. Even a lot of old artists of the 80s and 90s are using digital tools now.

One of the worst offenders are film production art. I used to love buying books and marvel at the hand drawn concept art of Ralph McQuarrie, John Bell, Ron Cobb, and other great artists, but now it's absolutely uneven, ugly and greyed photoshop concept art with little texture or charm.

I'd blame bias from the people making the decisions most of all. there's a handful of styles that are proven to make money so those guys get the big film/AAA work, and that means everyone is working like that.
