What's the most atmospheric retro game you've ever played?
Pic related for me, everything felt so heavy, dull and oppressive.

Thank god for that warning. Last thing I need to be confused and excited at the same time.

I loved this game. Never could beat it as a kid for the SNES, it just got too grindy and required so much leveling.

Still, genuinely enjoyed it back in the day.

Pic related, the classes I enjoyed most =)

Did you beat it later?
There's a patch that fixes the level-up bonuses back to what they're meant to be.

Yeah, on the ZSNES, and only with spamming the time-speed button to level up quicker.

As a kid, I always got infuriated by the combat against rival rune seekers. They were so powerful...

Yeah, they let the rival characters keep the original level up bonuses which was just plain cruel.
Also, the game had a barely related sequel called Mystic Ark that was translated. You might want to check it out. Lux is in it, at least.

This anon is alright.I only played four hours on it though. If it was translated I might have went longer. But the gameplay/emulator experience couldn't grip me.

The game itself was heavy, dull and oppressive. It was the video game equivalent of the Wheel of Pain.

Yeah this game is totally overrated, but dammit if the future segment wasn't pretty atmospheric and kind of spooky the first time. I mean you knew you were time-traveling and you didn't know where to, and then you end up in THIS place with this music and such.

I don't know, it was just memorable because it was so different from the medeival like setting that came before it. Green forests were gone, the wind whipped furiously, the land had transformed into a foreboding wasteland.

Seriously I don't even like CT that much and I never even finished it, but the future of this game always stuck with me as atmospheric.

7th saga's world felt so empty and harsh, although I'm not too sure if it was on purpose.

This game doesn't get enough recognition but it did so many awesome things with it's soundtrack. Very moody stuff that could be sad and exciting at the same time.

The Guardian Legend

The levels are so varied and the soundtrack is kick-ass. Each area has its own personality.
