It's not even close to "literally" as bad. It suffers from the same problems, which are inherent to the design of the game, but sonic shows what that kind of game can be like in the hands of competent developers. Bubsy shows what it's like when it's not.

Come on man, you're free to dislike Sonic all you want, but don't try to prop up Bubsy in the process.

Sonic's controls are fluid. Bubsy's controls are slippery, especially when gliding.
Sonic has constant protection as rings and shields are everywhere. Bubsy has little to no protection with an occasional invincibility.
Sonic can fall from great heights with no problem. Bubsy can not.
Sonic can go fast enough without compromising the gameplay. Bubsy can not.
Sonic's enemies are easily readable and you can make a proper judgement call on how to approach and defeat them. Most of Bubsy's enemies do not have this leisure.
Sonic's environments make it clear what will harm you or kill you. Bubsy's does not.
Sonic does not talk. Bubsy won't shut the fuck up.
Sonic's bosses are fair and engaging. Bubsy's bosses are repetitive, and stressful when they're not.

Both outrun the camera, and both use an outdated lives/continues concept, but Bubsy is punished more as a result due to flawed design.

First of all, Sonic the Hedgehog is a superior game to Bubsy using objective criteria like gameplay, graphics, and sound even if you think both are terrible games. Accolade should be completely embarrassed at this fact since Sonic was released in 1991 and Bubsy came out in 1993. Accolade had 2 years to ape Sonic the Hedgehog on superior hardware and couldn't fucking do it. That's fucking embarrassing.

Sonic had NO frame of reference to base its design on. Platformers before Sonic were all Mario clones and side-scrolling action RPGs. Bubsy had Sonic and, to underline this point, Accolade still fucked it up.

Visually, Sonic incorporated cutting edge 3D-like techniques for the rendering of its sprites like tessellation. Bubsy's art style looks like shitty public domain art that you saw on grade school posters.

Sonic's soundtrack was composed by a popular and cutting-edge Japanese performing artist for the time. Bubsy's soundtrack, developed for a superior sound chip, uses awfully outdated '50s rock music that belongs on touch-typing software on MS-DOS.

Bubsy had good marketing! The fact that you're a stupid zoomer and you know who Bubsy means that Bubsy's marketing was just as effective as Sonic's marketing. I remember seeing Bubsy every damn day on an Australian television show called Amazing where kids would compete to see how far they could get in the game. Bubsy was given an incredible chance and this is indicated by the fact that it got a sequel and it continued on the Jaguar.

I replayed the 1st one today and I think it still holds up well.

Not gonna lie I thoroughly enjoyed (the amount I could actually progress) the Busy on jaguar. I'm not sure if I'm a masochist or something but dying frequently and memorizing enemy patterns to zoom through was fun in a weird way. By no means a console seller, let alone a good game. I still liked it though, never really played any of the others. Anyone else into jag Bubz?

First bugsy is a 6(a good game), the second is a 3 and the 3D is a 1 or even 0.
I think the master system's Sonic and 3&K are the best Sonic, but all Genesis Sonics are better than a 6.

desu StH wasn't really about going fast and neither was Sonic CD, they were about fluid movement and physics and a sense of momentum. Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 are the ones that were marketed that way and they're not that great as videogames. S&K is basically designed backwards from marketing team passed down to developer.
