There's a channel on youtube that records 10 seconds of gameplay of every game released on each platform, slaps it together and uploads as a gaming library with you being able to quickly shift through all the releases. In theory it's cool but... but I've saw the Saturn one and just wrote down every title that looked "good" to me judging on 10 seconds of material and I just feel bad about it, it took me years to slowly uncover NES library for that matter but this library kind of stuff is just video game history in popcultural zoomer music video format. All the charm of searching and digging and random buying or downloading gone. My whole perception of Saturn being obscure and mysterious literally fell apart in three hours.

It only matters if you play the games. You do play the games don't you anon?

You are the zoomer.

If it's shmup I just pass. That made it easier to filter out like half of the Saturn library

Imagine being so shit at games you can't enjoy a good shump.

I'm pretty sure I discovered EVO: The Search for Eden from a similar video in 2006-ish.

So, I'm really curious, why don't you like SHMUP? I can understand not getting 1cc tier autistic about them but I find them quite fun in short bursts. For me it's nice to be able to instantly pick up a game without convoluted mechanics that you can actually improve at after multiple playthroughs.

Not him, but they're pretty much all the same. Once you've played a few, the genre just doesn't have much to offer.

Fair enough. I guess I only play about 10 different ones and it's mainly variations of art or vertical/horizontal and bullet hell/non bullet hell depending on my mood.

Good news zoomer. That youtube channel that has "every game" doesn't have every game. The Saturn, in particular, has a lot of stuff that's legit obscure. There's shit that's not listed on wikipedia and has nothing on youtube.
About 10 years ago I saw some turboautist post his Japanese Saturn "complete" set and noticed I had something he didn't. So I decided to look into what else there might be. I figured there should be ROMs of nearly everything out there. I started with "full" sets and then lists of games tand downloading individual files. I ended up with about 2500 ROMs. That's well over double the "official" figure, and like I said, there's nothing on youtube for several of them.
So if you like searching and digging then do it. You'll find a lot. Unless you're literally retarded. Which is a distinct possibility considering your "whole perception of Saturn being obscure and mysterious literally fell apart in three hours" and also because this is 4chan.

Calm down autist, there are full ROM sets that include all those “rare” games in multiple newsgroups, and they’ve been there for a decade. You’re not special and those games aren’t that obscure.

All those games counts for those consoles are wrong, especially Master System, which you can look up, and has at least 400 games.

Most genres aren't anywhere near as formulaic as shmups. Sure, there are a small handful of devs that actually attempt to innovate and advance the genre, but especially in /vr/ times, >95% of shmups look and play pretty much exactly the same.
