Are there any other games that have the ultra comfy late 90s/early 00s Doujin game feel that Ikachan and Cave Story have?

There have to be some games with a similar art and music style posted on some old Japanese blogs lost to time

The closest thing to that feel that I can think of is an iPhone game I used to play with my friends in 4th grade called Pocket Tanks (I think it's a port of an Amiga game)

Well I was going to direct you to Alpha Secret Base, but apparently their Japanese Geocities site is gone. You can look at it via the Wayback Machine, but none of the files are hosted.

New Super Marisa Land! A Mario-inspired fanmade Touhou platformer spin-off. Actually, I suppose just about any Touhou game meets the criteria

Is this another thread in which we can post non-retro games as long as it is not from a 6th gen console?

PC games are always contentious because the written rules only say "platforms" from 1999 and earlier, despite the unwritten rule about PC games a lot of posters follow.

At least >>5708991 is from 1999 tho

Looks cool. Care to share?

PC is a platform like any other. Games that run on a pre 2000 PC platform like Windows 9X are within the rules. I have never understood why this confused anyone. It's perfectly clear.

I wish I had a top-tier 1999 PC to test and see what crazy shit could be considered retro

Great! So when can we start having Halo CE threads here?

Halo is a slippery slide slope game and it's a good reverso example of why the PC rules are not of the same spirit as those for other platforms.

I personally think it's fine and you wouldn't get halo generals or anything because of the volume of counterposts they'd drown in from the retro police. It's 2019 though and the janitors really seem to delight in being the judges, jury and executioners (and lawmakers even)

Yeah because Castlevania getting almost exclusively discussed as a metroidvania franchise despite only one of it's "retro" games being like that isn't? All of /vr/ is a slippery slope and the rules are riddiculous. But if we're going to follow them, we might as well follow what they say and that's pretty simple.

There are heaps. There was a good site years ago called tigdb or something but i think they gave up. Shame really.
I remember one game called Guardian of Paradise that was a zelda like game that was really good. And some platformer game series that starred a little devil whose name i cant remember that was really good too.
