Best DBZ game was the card based batles RPG on Game Boy Colour. Now if I could jest remember the name...

I don't remember final bout having 5 bonus characters who were unlocked by entering cheat codes found in the manual. Only the best game could have such astounding design.

What were they thinking? 2 and 3 even had the same graphics and very similar combat, why would they take characters off?

3 was also speed up quite a bit, 2 feels super sluggish after playing 3. Character's aside, 3's biggest fault is the lack of a story mode, or any sort of conclusive single player mode at all, what's the point? Feels more like a demo than anything else.

That is the worst fighting game I have ever played and I am a huge Dragon Ball Z fan. It's worse than DBZ Sagas, I feel bad for owning it even though I got it at the dollar store. What do you like about this game? Why not Street Fighter, or Mortal Kombat, or even Dragon Ball Z Budokai?

This entirely.

Speaking of which, Anyone want to play Butoden 3 or Hyper dimension via zSnes v1.42?

>> No.568170

>>567668

I'm not sure but probably something to do with technical limits. And since the Super Butouden games were supposed to be very story-focused, it'd be silly to mix up different characters from different sagas.

A shame SB3 doesn't have a story mode though

It is a game that does take a while to get used to i admit. However the feeling of defeating 100 impossibly hard enemies in a row is more rewarding than a solid gold, feather embellished, diamond encrusted cod piece.

Also the combat system is very innovative.

Is this the only game that changes it's title when you type in a cheat code?

>> No.568346

This game reminds me of this friend I used to play games with. He said the game was so weird because characters became big or small all of a sudden (referring to when you jump into the air and the opponent stays on the ground), I got so pissed at him because he couldn't understand a concept as simple as perspective even though we were both like 14 at that time.

That said, the game was pretty shitty, the only thing it had going for it was the anime accurate graphics, that must have been where all the budget went, because seriously, why do all the super moves look like puny super slow energy balls instead of the huge ass beams? Did the Saturn version do any better?

You know it son, the cheat code was in the instruction book

Dude this game took a boring beam of energy and turned it into a badass sphere. everything was a spirit bomb.

Nice taste OP, but pic related is where it's at. I also like Super Gokuuden Totsugeki Hen for some reason, the one from the 23rd tournament saga to the end of Freeza's. It's basically the Ultimate Tenkaichi of the 90's, but the story and music have good pacing, and I like that there's a bad ending for pretty much everything in the game.

>>567607
Nigga please, I bet you didn't even see Super Baby's ultimate form. Or played the superior Japanese version with cast roll and ending songs played by fucking Hironobu Kageyama.

that's the only good thing about it really. gameplay was bland as hell and overall it felt too cheap. Legends is the best DBZ game on PS1.

And Super Butouden 2 is the best DBZ game: good gameplay, can be a bit slow if you try to play it like a street fighter but once you figure out how to do special moves (like throwing away your opponent against a rock with a kick, or doing a combo of 4, or 5 consecutive hits), and get the hang of the special attacks and how to block them or retrieve them back with another super power, then the games becomes addictive as hell. I spent many hours this weekend playing with my friend, the battles were crazy, we were flying and following each other around the stage, throwing energy blasts, pulling out special moves, and then all the super power clash.
I think out of all the 2D dragon ball fighting games, this one takes the crown, the story mode is also exquisite (for some reason, a story mode was taken out of Super Butouden 3, mind you "butouden" means "fight story", since SB1 and 2 are heavily story-focused and you can even change the events of it by trying different options, using different characters, or winning/losing certain battles).
Music is amongst my favorite vidya soundtracks to be honest, I'm not even exaggerating, if I had to pick the best thing this game has, is the music.
The roster is kind of bizarre, but that's also what I like about it: Goku isn't a selectable character unless you put in a code on the select screen, and you have characters like Cell Jr., Zangya and Boujack, which aren't common on DBZ games (maybe they are on the newer games, but a character like Boujack didn't appear on any other DBZ game, not even UB22)

Final Bout sucked, you could beat the AI by locking them into a repeated combo of knockback, chase, and so on.

My friend and I got all the way up to SSJ4 Goku in that one mode and even though he could oneshot us, we beat him with that combo.

Same here. I didn't say it wasn't weak. But it feels good to make the game play by your rules 15 years later.
