Do you think Spindash was a good addition to the Sonic series?

>> No.5680225

No. All it did was allow retards to be given instant speed whenever they wanted, thereby removing all the skill from the game since you never needed to actually conserve momentum again.

>> No.5680238 [DELETED]

yes, ignore the retard aboard

Yeah, if you think Sonic's supposed to be able to go fast no matter what (seems in character).

If you think the player should be punished for hitting obstacles that kill momentum and speed is a reward for playing well, then no.

>>5680225
Using the spindash in strategic ways requires more skill than any momentum based obstacle in Sonic 1.

joke: having spindash
broke: having no spindash
woke: having a shitty spindash like Sonic CD's

>> No.5680498

Spindash was fine. It required coming to a stop to use it so you generally didn't use it much when you got good at the game. However, there were still strategic uses of it like shooting off ramps that added a level of complexity to the platforming beyond just jumping between platforms.

sod off
this is a $60 children's game, not an olympic elimination trial
It added fun to the series and a way to propel the character through the geometry of the level very quickly since thats kinda the selling point of the whole series

Except you do have to conserve momentum you retard. It just lets you recover without having to walk all the way back to try again and fuck up the pacing. KYS.

So you're saying you weren't able to keep up the momentum in Sonic 2? So you just inadvertently gave away that you're a shitter. Congrats.

Spotted the zoomer. Genesis games were not $60 you idiot. In fact they were often much cheaper than SNES games which is one reason it sold well in the US.

It's balanced because you have to stop to use it. If it worked like it did in generation, it would be broken (It is broken in Generations)

Good addition, and is in place mostly to help people out when they screw up.

Not the assblasted faggot you're talking with, but I don't understand this, it had to be regional. Coming from rural Iowa, I never saw a game over $60 (except SMRPG) until ps2 generation. It was something that pissed people off quite a lot because they were all used to $50 games and $20 greatest hits type releases. We all talked about how they raised the prices back then.

How is it a "children's game" if you play it, assuming you're not a child.

This is nonsense. This is from an ad from some scumfucks selling MD games at exorbitantly high prices. I remember thinking Bong prices for games (usually £35-40) were reasonable because they were the same as Burger prices. That was before I learned about the exchange rate.

born in 85 and grew up in a rural town in the South. when we went into the larger cities, these were the prices for new games. older games would go down to about $20, and not long after being out (3-6 months) they'd drop down to 40 or so, but those are accurate for new prices. I always had to wait for games to wind up in the $20 or less bargain bin to be able to afford them. of course, especially with Nintendo, first/second party games never did. I remember before the KB Toys in the mall went under, they still wanted $70 for Kirby's Super Star in beat up condition and this was well into the 2000s.

This. Skilled play involves both spindashing at the right times AND keeping the momentum going.

No, even cheaper stores like Target were selling games for 60+ dollars into the N64 era.

East coast here, SNES and N64 regularly had 69.99 games, SF2 and Turok come to mind, Donkey Kong 64 might have been around 80 I don't remember, PlayStation always kept theirs at 50 and under, Saturn I don't remember but 49.99 was the most common
