Dreamcast. F355 Challenge, Sega Rally 2, and Metropolis Street Racer btfo's any N64 racer.

Even PSX with Ridge Racer T4 btfo's the N64's racing games. Plus Wipeout 3 > F-Zero X, and CTR > MK64 and DKR.

>> No.5679442

>>5679391
Crash is not a collectathon, though. It's as close to a classic, stage-by-stage, challenge-by-challenge platformer as possible, but in 3d.

>> No.5679457

The joke was N64 has too many same-y collectathon platformers.

>> No.5679460

>>5679457
At least it's not the console which got 5 yearly Crash game releases in a row, 3 yearly Spyro games in a row, 5 yearly Tomb Raider games in a row, 5 yearly Ridge Racer games in a row, etc and so on.

PS1 fans should be the last fucking people accusing any other platform of sameyness.

3 spyro games is still less than the plethora of generic collectathons that the N64 has.

you're saying thay while the ps1 had even more below-average collectathons, and a bunch of them based on tv shows or movies.

Jrpg's are good unlike shitty collectathons like mario, goemon and banjo, fuck off.

>> No.5679489

>>5679479
Most of the N64 "collectathons" are actually pretty good and fairly distinguished from each other. Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie are a lot different from each other than Spyro 1 and even Spyro 3 are.

You want to talk about generic collectathons? Check out how many literal shovelware titles in that area exist on PS1.

N64 has racing games?

>> No.5679535

>>5679420
Best platforms for racing games are non-retro (6th gen starts to have some really great peripherals and games) but to stay on topic, PSX and Dreamcast. N64 had some fun racing games and good party racers but there was nothing like Gran Turismo at the time.

I wish they all looked like this all the time. Instead these games all take place on bboring-ass racing tracks that are just asphalt, white and red borders and trees sticking from behind those. Why the fuck can't someone make a modern racing game with some inventiveness and variety like Outrun(ners)?

I won't really delve into why I believe it's true since the games are not retro but I will say that the steering wheels and other racing peripherals are miles ahead of where they were in 1999. The really great force feedback steering wheels started to pop up around PS2 era. That's not to say that retro systems don't have great racing games.

The N64 had racing sims that weren't aimed at kids: Nascar, several F1 games, GT 64, Indy, Supercross, Monaco Grand Prix, Rally Challenge, WRC, etc. Whether any of those are actually good is another story.

sans Supercross, gt64 and rally challenge (has Genki ever made a good racer?), all those racing games are considered by many to be good (F1WGP was highly praised at the time).
