They kept Yuffie's kawaii jailbait element, but forgot the rest that made her interesting. Despite being a side character, she has two side-quests (Selfie literally has zero), and these reveal a lot about her character, her motivations (Selfie has zero), as well as the backstory to Wutai. Wutai is vital for the mythos since it's part of the Shinra-Wutai war that looms over much of the background. Yuffie's theif element also adds a bit of mischevious rogue edge to her.

I'm a hardcore FF8 fan, so many times I would even try to escape reality with lucid dreaming, I would be in Balamb Garden where I would often train with Zell in the training center and help Selphie with the Garden Festival, but one day as I was talking to Selphie, we went to my dormitory for a private talk. She immediately said, "You know you could live with us forever.." I gave her a confused look and she continued, "We understand that you live on earth and you REALLY wish to live here". I then said "How..How did you know?" She then giggled and said "Because we've been watching you, silly!"

This was a dream come true and I almost cried right there. She then said, "I talked with Headmaster Cid and he agreed that you would be PERFECT for SeeD, you just have to do...one thing". I then gave her some questions, "How long do I have before the deal expires?" She then said "Cid said 3 months.." I added by saying "What's the most painless way?..." She giggled again, "Suicide will require pain buuut...if you want it quick...Get a gun and a nice shot to the head works.

I then agreed and she gave me a kiss on the forehead, "I know this will be tough but once it's over and done, you'll get to live here!" I then woke up and this was last week and i purchased a gun. I might actually kill myself because that dream just felt too real to be fake and my life isn't doing so grand.

FFXI has the best spellcasting/magic in any game.
Nothing like the adrenaline rush of using spells on a glass cannon like Black Mage or Red Mage to Bind, Gravity, kite, nuke, DoT etc incredibly hard bosses and win fights that normally takes 6-12 people to beat with a traditional party set up.

Well, in terms of animations, all the SNES ones have better casting animations.

In terms of effect, FF8 has some strong spells, but the game is mostly about spamming limit breaks. The strongest spell is the one that lets you more easily spam limit breaks.

I'm not the OP but i think that "remaster" gonna sucks, they are mostly only reworking hero's models and for what we have saw squall and linoa aren't looking the same, it's like they changed the face and it's no more the same characters (others seem fine).
They are also only showing battle mode because you can be sure the world backgrounds won't be improved and some hardcore fans will have to upgrade it themselves.
But that remaster gonna sell well like any other remaster but that's a bit sad.

I just started playing FF8 again and this time I've been playing much more casually with the magic system. I'll only draw a few of the spells at a time, I don't farm 100 of everything for everyone in a single fight. I also use magic from my own stock more often. So my stats are always changing a little here and there. The combat isn't any harder but it feels fresh.

It might be because I haven't played it in over a decade though, but I've been having a great time with it.

The only time this is ever really done is for 300 Aura from Seifer, 300 Meteor from level 100 Ruby Dragons and 300 Pain from Elnoyle (if you're not saving Curse Spikes for Shockwave Pulsar). You're supposed to refine well over 90% of your magic.

I felt Seifer's character never got the chance to develop it's full potential. When I first played FF8, I thought that it would be impossible to surpass Sephiroth as a villain, but then I saw Seifer and thought he had great potential. Bit further in the game, he somehow got relegated from strong minded main character and charismatic villain to an easy manipulated villain sidekick and occasional pre-bossfight victim. Truly a shame, he deserved better.

I always felt how the sudden change from alpha chad bad boy to romance struck knight toy was out of character and kind of an excuse for a plothole. But then, there are a few of those plotholes in FF8, to the point where it gets ridiculous. This sequence for example pissed me off when I played it back then. The just defeated boss (poor Seifer again) just jumps up, runs away and somehow manages to kidnap a party member which for no reason at all seems to be there - of course all of this happens conveniently off screen. Even I recognized how stupid that was.

When? After the Edea fight in Galbadia Garden? Can't be much of an appearance, probably just some hovering around on a very fuzzy screen before posessing Rinoa, with the explanation of what happened not until you visit Cid and Edea. If that is true, you are just seeing a blurry image of someone, and then later you hear that the blurry vision is your main enemy. And the next time you see her is the final fight. Pretty boring villain in my opinion.
