Super IV is really, really slow. It gets damn good towards the end, but it has nearly as many boring filler levels as the first game has total levels.

As for people hating on CV3, you're all retarded. It looks amazing, sounds amazing, plays amazing, has branching paths, multiple characters. Arguably the best in the whole series. Especially the Japanese original. But even the US version is that good.

I love CV3... except for the bosses. What were they thinking? Reusing the same bosses over and over, plus the boss fights in general are the weakest part of the game. I will say that Rondo has some really fun boss fights, to agree with the anon above.

To me, CV bosses aren't even that important. I mean, most bosses in CV1 suck, and can be cheesed with sub-weapons, but what matters the most about CV is the levels themselves. Having so many bosses in games like III and Bloodlines worsened the pacing a CV game should have.
Rondo did bosses very well. Probably Rondo, X68000 and IV have the best bosses in the series. No wonder SOTN rehashed bosses from them.

Most CV1 bosses can be beaten by mindlessly spamming the whip, though. That's one of the reasons I like IV bosses, they don't try to make the boss fights too long, they can be done in a minute or two (especially if you have triple cross).
My favorites are the spectral dancers, slogra and gaibon.

I actually can beat frankie by spamming whip. You just need to make sure you hit igor at the same time so he gets stunlocked. But I just beat him by spamming whip on frankie.
I can also beat Dracula with the whip only but not "mindlessly mashing", but then again you can't mash whip on IV's drac either.
Anyway, as I said, I don't really see it as a bad thing that you can beat bosses quickly.

Almost all Classicvania bosses can be defeated in less than a minute. Slogra is one of the rare cases where it will take a while due to his i-frames and how he flies off-screen when hit. I do agree that he's a pretty good boss fight though, albeit with a beak hitbox that needed more refining before the game went gold.

The level design is also obnoxious. Respawning offscreen enemies and no save system despite the fact that there games on the NES without those problems. Also the whip upgrade system feels extremely antiquated for SNES and the game is way too easy on top of it. It just doesn’t feel like a castlevania.
