Redpill me on the recent wave of NES/famicom multicarts, will they cause my NES to explode?

They are only able to save one game at a time, as in, you save another Game, and it erased the first game's save. But most NES games don't save, so, whatever.

It's more money, but you are FAR better off getting an N8. I know I am going to be killed for saying this, but the N8 can do savestates, so right there, it's worth it.

Yes. You see that red color on the cartridge? That means that it's made out of dynamite, if you insert it into your NES and power it on, that'll send an electric pulse to the blasting cap and the cartridge explodes.

they're a lot of fun and will not make your NES explode.

There is a fundamental design issue with many cheap retro repros and even flash carts where the cartridge's flash is designed for I think 3.2v but it gets fed uncovered 5v directly from the console to save on production costs. This can and sometimes will cause the cart to burn up (my personal was it Recca running overnight to find a dead multicart in the morning) but it won't damage the console itself. I've been singing this song ever since whatshisface dbelectrics got viral from making the alarmist claim but people still are buying into it.

So all that’s needed is something to drop the voltage to 3.2 from 5? Is it that simple?

Yes, a transistor in line on the PCB for the flash. I'm not sure but I think other stuff on the chip like the IC needs 5v though so there's some reason you can't just make a pass through that drops the voltage to the entire cart.

No your console might be okay. The cart will die becsuse the extra voltage has nowhere to go.

>> No.5653554

Just don't buy chink flash carts and you'll be fine.

I bought that one in the pic few years ago and its working fine. Games themselves are random mix of japansese/us/pal and some of them are hacked/bad dumps and kirbys adventure in particular is unplayable. There are other multicarts on aliexpress so check them out instead, or better, save some money and buy flashcart.

It’s is a contraction for it is or it has.
Its indicates possessive.
