I'm only at the begining of chapter 2 with Worm knowing where to go and with speed up on walking I could get back to where I am at no problim in a short amount of time

I named Ness after me playing Earthbound and TALLA is a butcherd verson of my sisters name so the little romance at the end was really weird and I didn't see it comeing

I hate to say it but I genuinely suggest starting over if you're not far. Mother 3's ending is one of the best in any game I feel, to have silly names occur your first time experiencing it would be a damn shame. Play the game blind please, it's a wild ride and I wouldn't want it ruined for anyone playing the game. If you haven't completed chapter 1 I suggest it highly.

Sorry, didn't even address your main question but yes, the names are more important then even in Earthbound I feel. Not to say Earthbound's uses of the names entered isn't also amazing but Mother 3's use is even better I feel.

Seriously though, do not look up the game at all. The ending is one of, if not, the most discussed aspects of the game. To have it spoiled would be a shame. Do not consult any kind of online video guide or anything, you really shouldn't need one either.

EarthReBound is some mix between a few improvement or decensor hacks. It changes the text here and there to match the japanese version, supposedly removes some of the censorship/localization changes and also has controls and menus that are a bit more streamlined/comfortable to use.

It's more likely Nintendo will make a remake of Mother 1 before that comes out. Mother 1 could really use one, it's got a great framework with its story and characters but it being a NES RPG just kinda makes it a reskinned DQ clone.

Plus a remastered soundtrack is always nice.

Literally play it for about 2 hours and decide for yourself. It's a good game, but has an annoying fandom and lots of "muh hidd3n g3mz" folks riding its coat tails.

I'm not a RPG fan, but I love this game. No boring assed normal RPG setting that's been done into the ground, great music, charming and trippy graphics, fun humor, likeable characters with good character development. It's comfy and fun.
