Developers back then mistakenly thought "M-Muh buttons!" was a selling point.
Look at it from their perspective:
The NES was seen better than the Atari and it had one more button. (Not counting Start/Select)
The Genesis was seen better than the NES and it had one more button.
The SNES was seen better than the Genesis and it had 3 more buttons.
The N64 was... I think you get it.

It's not retro, but that weird looking silver gamecube in the back is a panasonic q model, which has a special disc drive that can read dvds and gamecube games.

Uh not without some kind of component to hdmi converter. It doesn't make the quality HD but it does look a lot better than just using the tv's component inputs. At least that's what I hear.

I have an s-video mod on mine so I use it on my rear projection tv, but whenever I have the money to buy an hdtv I'll have to invest in one of those converters.

I personally have played the system mostly for the platformers, fighters, puzzles, and some of the shmups. I think the library of games can be kind of hit and miss for some people so it is probably wise to make sure you have a solid group of games down that you wanna play before deciding to buy one. Here's some you may wanna look up:
