Just recently I did my first ever run on HC to hell baal on Path of Diablo with a Boner Necro. Once I had killed Baal a couple times I didn't really feel the need to keep playing though. Even with PoD the "endgame" kinda feels pointless.

I'm starting to wonder if the LK map you get determines the chance for your rune drops, and if chest contents are decided when you click on the chest, or when you enter the game.

So far 3 out of 4 of my high runes with my new map have been Ohms. Can't tell if that's just rng or the map, but it's very annoying.

bone armor shouldn't really help since I am assuming you are a skelemancer, attacks that make it past the dudes will be magic damage. revives are actually a massive help but you need a source of teleportation to use them properly. Max corpse explosion with clay golem levels (until around 50% slow) is probably the best choice

Item drop rate only increases at odd playercounts, and enemy hp/exp increases linearly, by the same amount, at all playercounts.

Once I finish NM I'm going to use to cow portal to quickly look for a tele staff from Akara. Speaking of cows is there any point in farming the normal cow level? I never made the portal. hellcows are a decent source of socketed equipment and regular/flawless gems and sometimes runes.

on the lower difficulties they don't really provide much beyond gems and they usually mostly provide regular quality gems.

The best bet for chipped gems is act one normal through a combination of killing/opening everything you see and rolling a map with lots of shrines and the houses that have the super chests

Basically this, it's pretty handy to have those extra renewable hitpoints for random archer mobs or spear cats or ninja dolls or what have you.
Normal cow level is high enough level to have 4os but not more for crystal swords and flails, so it's an okay place to farm a base for hoto or spirit.

For all these years Necro was the one class I always avoided and never got past lvl 5. I know I said after starting plugy I'll level all classes and make builds for them, and I don't know how this fucking game works, but ever since I got this torch literally like 5 days ago, I've somehow been getting only Necro skillers.

Literally have 5 summoning charms, 3 curses, and one 31 life poison and bone charm skiller. Weirdass game, and the summoner build is especially the one I know literally nothing about and I'm least interested in. Fucks my mind up how RNG works.

What version do you guys play for doing Holy Grail runs? From what I've read Azurewrath (crystal sword) only generates in 1.09, and after that it's replaced with an aura weapon. I've also heard if you make a "time traveler" character starting with version 1.0 and moving forward you can get some weird and fun uniques with different stat mods. I've got a fun Windows 98SE system with a Voodoo 5500 that I'd like to use for some shenanigans.

Summoner build is probably the easiest and requires the least gear or player skill in the game.
It's nice if you want to get comfy while watching a movie on another screen or something too.
Basically max skeletons, skeleton mastery, put like 10 or 15 points into CE, 5 or 10 points into summon resist, put 1 point into the good curses (Amp damage, iron maiden, decrepify) and spend the rest of your points however you want. Some people put points into Clay/Fire golem, some go with points into revive, some go for bone armor.

Gear-wise, dont really need anything. Just have resists so the odd charged bolt that somehow gets past your wall of skeletons doesnt 1 shot you. +skill gear wherever you find it. Lore, Stealth, Bone and Rhyme runewords are all good, cheap runewords for a necro. I also sometimes use Edge on a shitty bow too.
Merc you could go with either Might aura, Holy Freeze or Prayer. Personally I rock Might just so my skeletons do some nice damage. Eventually gear your merc up with an Eth Smoke runeword and give him an Obedience polearm, he'll be your big hitter.

For boss fights, clay golem, iron maiden spam will cheese nearly all of them. Or you can go with Decrepify, clay golem slow, a cold skeleton magi etc and most bosses like Baal will move too slowly to even attack you more than once or twice.

If you have PlugY it might be faster in the early lvls to use Teeth & Bone Spear then respec but Skeletons are the lazy fun way to play. Bone Spear build basically plays like a Lightning Sorc.

All you need is a half nice wand and offhand to summon your skeletons. Then I switched back and just ran around with Gull and whatever else had most MF on it. I barely even bothered with using stat points.

You must max lightning res and put on tgod to deal with gloams/black souls in wsk, but otherwise it's ok.

It's true that it is something major to work for, and it always delivers (no random chance of it being shit). I think it's hella cool in single player

Ice runeword is the best bet, though you can actually use Faith really well, underrated for it's attack speed coupled with Freezing Arrows aoe. Upped Wizendraw is a good early weapon.

Hell you could use anything with +skills, high attack speed or even high physical damage i.e. windforce to kill cold immunes, it's also great for the leech and knocking back cold immunes.

Pro-tip: don't They're fucking awful until you get the absolute best gear in the game, and even then they're still near the worst build in the game for almost everything. You can't MF as good every other class, you'll never be particularly tanky, and the tank you do have bugs out with bow skills, leveling without gear is a punishment satan inflicts on those who end up in the worst circle of hell, especially act 2/3 normal. The best bows are horrifically expensive e.g. faith, ice, brand or stupid rare e.g. windforce. Bows in general were over balanced for when accounting for the range advantage and thus have awful base damage. The skill tree lacks the damage spikes you get on most other classes around the 24-30 levels and even then those skills fall off late nightmare/early hell without the right gear and a lot of +skills.

I love every second of it.

I would recommend just level as a java then respec once you're leveled and have gear.

I tried to make that work for a long ass time, and from research so have many others on the forums. I've yet to see anyone actually do it. The reason skeletons, golems and most other summons will teleport to you is that they all have a hidden skill, called "teleport2" in the files. They autocast it once they reach a distance from you.

The issue is that revive doesn't make a 'summon' in the same way as the rest, it just gives you the monster and of course, they don't have the skill. I've tried so many things to give it to them, but they either can't have it or won't cast it for whatever reason.

Jesus Christ... equip him with Treachery, Obedience or Insight and Tal helm. All dirt cheap to acquire and Hell viable.

the highest def armor you can find, probably an ethereal rare, or a non-eth with an inexpensive runeword, but really you want at least 1k def

I did up to act 3 hell with insight in a non-ethereal grim scythe and it fucking sucked, but I also had a 1.2k defense dusk shroud for him, so while slow, he could kill immunes when absolutely necessary.

What are the best candidates for normal->exceptional->elite armor upgrades?

Duriel's Shell, Shaftstop and Guardian Angel all look like decent candidates. I'm probably weighting the DR% on Shaftstop more than I should, though. The caster ones are probably fine to upgrade too, though the defense isn't really the important part.

I'm not sure if any normal armors are really worth the upgrades, maybe darkglow.

Just for positioning your minions at a boss. Everything else will drain the charges in seconds.

Go to boss, decrep it, tele on top of it. If you do Meph, make sure you don't Aggro the vampires.
