-great gameplay, perfect balance between fun platforming and hard challenge
-amazing gothic aesthetics that can appeal to the video game nerd who appreciates good spritework, the goth guys who want to see their aesthetics represented in a game, and normies who think of it as a tourist visiting a cathedral
-even more amazing soundtrack that also appeals to the video game nerds who enjoy good modular music, the goth/music nerd, and the normie, it sounds good for all of them
-pretty much every major console from 4th gen has a good CV entry, even Turbografx CD
When you have all these into account, it's pretty obvious there's going to be shitposting about which is "best" and what not. Too many interests interwine.

I won't say I like it much, it's ok, but I recognize its importance. It's better if you play it as if it has permadeath, in other words try to never die or take damage. It honestly requires too much focused attention for me to play it for long times this way, but I believe this is the only way to git gud at it. You can't relax or play casually. The controls are simplistic enough. Yeah in earlier titles you have to deal with rough shit, time your jumps more since you are stuck without being able to move in mid air, platforms are wonky and hitboxes are weird. But it's manageable.

Anyways, maybe it's not your cup of tea. You just got into the series and you didn't find it pleasant. That's ok. You can try many other games. You can try other games in the series, in fact. Not all of them have the same controls. In fact some of them are more polished and have a lot of movement options. In Rondo of Blood you can even moonwalk. In later titles, fucking up is mostly a product of lack of skill rather than an unfair or unpolished product.

Why do you classicfags dislike or hate the exploration based castlevania games? What do you find to be wrong about the series? Is it the fact that they did the same thing for like 7 entries and barely released anything classic afterwards? Is it the mechanics of games like those in general? The lower difficulty? What is it?

Castlevania is unique though that's its thing, no other series does that slower, methodical and rhythmic gameplay style better than CV. I like plenty of platformers way more than CV (GnG, Umihara Kawase, Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden) but they're very different in their appeal and thus can't really compete with it beyond just sharing the same genre.
