ITT: We discuss our favorite retro driving and racing games.

One of my favorites is Neo Drift Out for the Neo Geo. Have you ever had a game that you knew you loved the instant you saw it? Neo Drift Out was like that for me. It's basically exactly what I want in a racing game.

It's bad ass. Super fast and smooth, the controls are incredibly responsive, and the tracks are designed really well.

I think Enduro Racer on the Master System was the first home console game I completed. Once I managed it the first time, I could do it pretty much consistently whenever I played it, from memorizing the tracks so much. Pretty awesome game, with varied track themes.

Well, the best two are clearly F-Zero X and Road Rash (32bit version). Those two are basically flawless.

That out of the way, though, I recently picked up Outrun 2019 for my Genesis for cheap and its really cool. Amazing music, classic gameplay.

Is that game a clone of World Rally, or was WRC the clone?

Anyway, I was looking for a picture of a cabinet used for WRC which had an enclosed cockpit, driver seat, gearstick and a wheel. But instead I found the homepage for the game, and the devs are giving the game away for free!

The list is too fucking long. Starting at Outrun on the 286 (spectrum never really had any decent racing games) and ending with MSR on the DC (also TDU, if I can mention it here).

There is, however, one very old racer I continue to play to this day- Street Rod 2. Buy cars, kit them out, race against the locals, make bets... Game's fucking amazing. Wish that new version ever came close to anything worth playing.

Aside from CTR, the only other racing game I played growing up (mostly because I didn't have any other ones) was "Car & Driver Presents: Grand Tour Racing 98".

It was meant to be something of a competitor to Gran Turismo and is actually a fairly decent game even though I don't particularly care for realistic racing games
