Reading a 1995 PC Engine Fan magazine was so sad. The god damn Saturn and PlayStation have already been released, and we have this little system designed to compete with the god damn Famicom still chugging along.

Yeah, they were still releasing new games for it in 1995, including Sapphire. Famitsu and PC Engine Fan really hype up the "polygons" used in the game, like it means anything. You can clearly see they're feeling the pressure from the 32-bit consoles and even shit like Donkey Kong Country's "3D" graphics.

Then the mag hypes up the PC-FX like it's second coming of Jeshua. You just know that it's ill-fated and the console is going in the wrong direction as it's based around FMV and visual novels.

Then I got to thinking, what would a proper PCE follow up system be? And conceptually I can't see any different between it and what the Saturn and PS already did. If anything, the SS was the proper followup: 2D focus, gobbled up all the shmups, and dating sims, and rpgs that would have gone to the PCE follow up system.

Poor little PCE was doomed.

Genesis had plenty of good ones. Even SNES had some.

Turbografx doesn't have any RPG on the level of FFVI or Chrono Trigger. There is tons of RPG you could play on the other consoles. So I don't get this comparison at all.

>Pinball games over Mario?
Okay? WTF?

>Who are you to tell me that they're better if I enjoy the other games more?
Just stating my opinion on an opinion thread. I can't see how anyone could ever choose TGX over the other two unless they are nostalgia fagging way too hard. I love the system myself but I can't be disingenuous and say it was the best or even second best. It just didn't even get enough sales or support in the west to justify it. I mean I would love to have seen them be more competitive and who knows, perhaps if they were a lot better it would even have been my favorite of that gen.

>Do you even understand WHY people play video games?
Why does it hurt your feelings this much? Especially when I already said I loved the console myself and enjoyed it very much as a kid? I've got plenty of nostalgia for it too man. But that is the thing, nostalgia. That is what ultimately defines this thing the most.

Thing is, those games are only really impressive when you're like 6 and all you've ever seen is a SNES. When you're an adult, you see they aren't that special and the game play is a slog. I really like the look of the original PC Engine. There's something really appealing about it's design to me, the way it's a perfect square with a little slot for the game card and the controller input. I love how small it is as well, all that power is such a little console. I love all the little markings and engravings too, really makes it feel like a machine in a way. I also love how it can be combined with the CD Addon, and how the CD addon is also the perfect size of the PCE sitting next to it.

To me, it just seems really appealing to look at.

The Duo-RX posted in >>5607162 on the other hand is just a smooth rounded design, it's kinda boring and I've seen similar designs in consoles as well, the PCE is unique but this just seems like any other console like a PS3 slim painted grey. All the cool shit aesthetics of the original are gone with this, there's no cool engravings and even the logo is a boring shade of lavender instead of the striking "PC ENGINE" in red. I do like how the hu-card slot can be flipped up and down and how you can see it on the system, but otherwise I don't like it

In terms of what you get though, it's a much better deal (PC Engine + CD 3.0 compatible) and I actually own a Duo , but I just really dislike how it looks.

Obviously, it's all just my own opinion. Some people like Brutalist structures and others don't, so it's all understandable. I just love the look of the original a lot.

The PC-Engine is one of those cases where the clone console is mroe expensive than the real thing. The Retro Freak runs about $250 prior to shipping and taxes, and I already have the Duo and Express from my youth, so a repair would be more cost effective.

Thank you very much, bro. 20-minute search for MS came up empty, but I'll work on it more soon. There's also its sequel to look for, too.

Thanks for that. I didn't even know they had released a sequel before Frozen Utopia seemingly collapsed. I know that the quality of most of these indie PC Engine RPGs is extremely low, but there's just a certain charm about playing a bad RPG on that system that doesn't happen with other ones for me. The project I'm currently looking forward to the most is the Xanadu translation, but I guess they still have real life shit to sort out before they finish the last bits of it.

Check archive, retromags, retrocdn, and other sites and see what they have and don't have. Scan things

I originally thought your thing was an issue of EGM, but it's Turbo Force

I'm not sure how many issues of Turbo Force are scanned. Did Turboforce cover Cotton by any chance?

Which issue of Turboforce is that? I might need to cite that for something on Magicla Chase I'm writing.

>> No.5616960

It's Turboforce 4, page 14-15

He always says "this is old stuff I collected from back in the day"
but that's even MORE bullshit. My guess is he owns a retro store that he lives above so he can run down and set up these cutsy pictures whenever he sees his chance to shine.

Don't care. He has mags that haven't been scanned. I want him to share these. They're precious.

The writing of a CDRW also uses more power than regular CDRs, but is a separate issue just for your burner. Reading CDRWs requires higher read power, and re-reading sectors for error correction purposes on a CDRW is common because their reflectiveness is poor, putting more unnecessary strain on your reading drive.

Reading anime reviews in TurboForce, and man, wouldn't it have been cool if they released anime for PCE-CD and Sega-CD?
