At any rate, it was the last console to use actual cartridges, and got a port for the original DOOM. It's retro enough for /vr/.

Every time we allow new vidya generations, the identity of the board becomes a little more vague. I think it's important to keep /vr/ as a particular slice of video game history (the beginning). In the context of this board "retro" is a time period, not a genre or feel. And dirty little secret: I've seen lots of people break the rules and discuss new games anyway. If you want to talk about games, do it already!

I actually don't really care much about the word "retro" on a semantic level. There isn't really an official definition for it anyway, just vague subjective definitions. It can mean something "old" or something that looks "old", but for a 18 year old, something from 2012 is old.
Anyway, yeah I'd rather not discuss GBA here, I won't die because it's not allowed.

Initial reaction is all for it, then I realized the GC connectivity is a slippery slope.

Of course you can't discuss GBA or any other video games on /v/, so it would be nice to make a few exceptions here. But these "X should be allowed" threads always turn into a shitposting nexus.

You can still post about retro remakes or ports on GBA, though. As long as the original version is a retro game.

I literally got it for my birthday and had to wait until Christmas so I could get a SP and actually see the goddamn screen.

You realize that vidya started in the '70s, right? PS1 and N64 are incredibly far removed from "the beginning," even NES can't be classified as part of "the beginning" as it actually saved the gaming industry after it had already died in the American market.
