Played guardian heroes and found the graphics and music ok...but what I really hated was the gameplay...I mean I know it's a beat'em up but I expected more than just button mashing...did I miss something or is there nothing more to the game ? ( Gameplay wise )

Instead of making another rpg thread I'll just ask here.
I'm playing Phantasy Star IV and like it a lot, are there any other rpgs that play similarly to it? I find the pacing is perfect, dialogue and battles really fun. Everything just works well.

Really the dialogue and characters bring it to life, it seems very natural how they talk and some of it is really funny.
