Operation Logic Bomb.

Very good top down shooter with some catchy tunes. I never see it mentioned anywhere even though it was released in PAL and NTSC regions.

Darius Twin and Darius Force (Super Nova) are actually quite good shmups. I would rank both of them above some of the more popular shmups like U.N. Squadron or Axelay.

Logic Bomb was one of those games I had as a kid that I played the shit out of, but never made it past the 2nd level. This was as a 5-8 year old by the way. I didn't love it, but you play what you have when you're a kid

A whole ton of Jaleco's games are like this. Not standout enough to be A grade, but totally great of their own accord.

The Rushing Beat series is one I dig, mainly Ran/Brawl Brothers. A fun scrolling fighter full of secrets, 5 characters which is unusual for a game like this, the three you don't pick turn evil and you have to knock them out of their brainwashing in neat setpiece bossbattles. The US version adds weird mazes to some stages to pad them out, as well as a lot of retranslations, but a button code resets everything back to the Japanese version.

Its sequel was neutered as fuck in its US version, would kill for a translation of Rushing Beat Shura.

Tuff E Nuff feels like it's part of the same series with its atmosphere/aesthetic, but it's a one on one fighter. It again has its own quirks and little elements unique to itself, but feels largely like SF2. Pretty mechanically sound and there's by far worse fighters on the SNES.

Phalanx is a decent shmup with nice pixel graphics and a decent soundtrack. America got the weird man with a banjo cover which probably deterred people from playing it back in the day.
