It's fake nostalgia with most filters. The gaps were too narrow for most to notice. CRT-Royale does it right.

Good games have always been made, and many of today's are just as good, especially some from indie auteurs instead of corporate machines.

RE2019 is a damn good game.

Agreed. Hollow Knight is a fantastic game that oozes soul with it's drawn graphics. So much better than the other "new retro" games like Celeste which rely on overly blocky pseudo 8 bit. It's so obvious these people never played on a CRT or realized that there were sprite designs that went way beyond NES and kicked ass like the Metal Slug series.

Fact: Indie devs still try to find innovative mechanics that change the gameplay of an established genre significantly.

Example: Snake Pass - a platformer with completely new idea of movement - you slither and coil trying to maintain grip on the surfaces, instead of running and jumping around, and still maintains fundamental part of platformer - movement itself should be fun.
