I'm looking to buy one of these right here. Would you rather get the Genesis controller, given it has an extra button, or the Saturn one?

The picture you show are the console versions. Do you mean you want one for PC? I have both (for console) and always prefer the Saturn controller over the Genesis. But both are good controllers.

Saturn controllers have shoulder buttons. They're also a little bit bigger. I thought Genesis controllers were perfect when I was like 11 or whatever but now I prefer the Saturn ones. I've been told Retro it controllers in general aren't great though.

These retrobit genesis ones have shoulder buttons. On PC the saturn controller has actually 1 button less than the genesis one.

I would guess some PS1 titles that require a select button, like for instance SotN.

To be fair though, these controllers don't exactly have top notch build quality. retrobit fucked up at first too with the saturn pad (pic related). The best thing is to buy the originals and use decent adapters, but of course that's more expensive. Seems like these companies get how these controllers should feel compared to the originals, but don't really give a shit about them being durable.

OP I recently got the Retrobit Saturn controller w/ USB adapter and so far I'm diggin it. Other people are right in the sense that the shoulder buttons feel a bit different compared to the console version but it's very negligible. Everything else feels good, it's worth the money.

However this doesn't seem like an isolated case, but a batch of them that went wrong

https://www.reddit.com/r/SegaSaturn/comments/bdx12f/a_comparison_of_the_dpad_cross_piece_between_an/

Since I live in a country where we get things imported several decades later I wasn't sure if I wanted to risk it. I saw more people definitely complain about that.

However I saw complaints about the m30 too. Again, it was a hard decision because after hours of looking in different places, most people would end up only buying one, saying both are great or "this is total garbage, nothing like the original, I'll stick with my [insert the other controller]". I don't know where exactly the "better rated" comes from.

I mean, take this for instance:
https://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=64381

With this kind of feedback I wasn't sure enough. So I figured, if both controllers weren't going to be that amazing in the first place, I would grab the one that supports bluetooth and has more functionality.

The problem with these usually is that they do not last long. They focus on having a similar feel and response as the originals, but they do cheap out on stuff when possible.

I mean, these are cheap gamepads too. They're not overly expensive if you were to compare to the original deal in good condition. If you live where retro-bit can reach you it's no problem, if you receive a botched controller you can have it replaced. If you live in a non-english speaking country though, you're shit out of luck.

So I did an hour or so comparisons with an original and these retro bit ones. Pretty accurate feel and input, same on Emulators. As for how long it will last, I don't handle my controllers like a fucking FGC nigger so I don't know about that. I would recommend if you really want one, but an original controller with a good adapter is far better for Emulation.
