Alright, this thing is fucking pissing me off. Having 480p line doubled forces widescreen. I really thought this device was fucking perfect but this tiny little flaw makes me want to just fucking trash it and go back to my CRT.
I have tried changing the modes from DTV to VESA 640x480 but that doesn't do shit. In closing, STAY AWAY FROM THE OSSC!

Ignoring what everyone else said. I have not seen this issue on several other sets myself (I think I have tested my XRGB 3, XRGBMini, OSSC on over 50 sets since I got my OSSC). Sounds like the tv is treating the signal as a EDTV no matter what (common on shitty sets with older hardware that wasn't tested much for the current panel)

Get a TCL. They are chink, but have incredibly low delay and gtg (the s40, s42, s51 and newer). Sometimes the backlight isn't bright enough or the blacks are not dark/even enough for some people, but for like $250-400 for a huge ass tv, with great specs overall and a truckload of features... you can't complain. I would in fact say that if they keep this up for another 4-5 years, they will be the next Vizio. (Gaining market and selling sets at the same price as Sony/Samsung/LG which is what Vizio did after 5-8 years of being the go to cheap alternative.)

Only real downside is they seem to be ignorant to the fact 1080p @ 120hz is something people want. Some 2018 sets even have 1440p @ 120hz. But at their price I don't see how people can complain.

>> No.5567481

>>5567297
You sound like you have low standards, don't tell people what they can't complain about when really it's only you who wouldn't complain about uneven and gray blacks like it's still 2004. If this brand will only be good in a few years, maybe people should forget about them until then instead of listen to you. How else will this company learn that people consider picture quality more important than any other features if you are telling people to reward them with sales.

It should not scale the image to 1920x1080 unless you explicitly instruct it to do so. It should default to either pillarboxing or 1:1 integer mapping.

ANY transformation done by the TV is unpredictable and is likely introducing artifacts/lag. Avoid it wherever you can unless you know specifically what the TV is doing. When you let the TV compress the image back to 4:3 what algorithm is it using? 99% of the time you don't know.

Always pre-scale to the native resolution of the panel if you can, and choose 1:1 pixel mapping under its options.

The SNES spits out oddball refresh rates which HDTVs do not like. The result is arbitrary signal drops, being brief or indefinite. Marqs offered a fix for this called the dejitter mod, which normalizes the refresh rate of the SNES.
But no such mod is required. All that is required is to boot the SNES and ensure the reported refresh is 60.08hz. After that is ensured, your SNES experience will be completely devoid of signal drops. There is no need for a dejitter mod. As you can tell, some of the retards in this thread fell for the dejitter meme.

I love my unit but having to move a couple feet away from the TV to slowly make adjustments on the tiny LCD never stops being annoying. Doesn’t help that the menu structure is sprawling and mostly arcane, being able to view the entire menu on the TV itself would be a game-changer in terms of usability, even if it had to blank out the video input while it displayed
