Personally i just LOVE Super Street fighter II. It got a LOT of criticism though. Especially in the USA. It might be everyone's least fave SFII game.

It did a lot of things right,
and it was the most accessible fighting game for the worldwide audience.

There were a lot of other great fighting games around,
but they were largely left in Japan,
or were Neo Geo exclusive,
which still costs a small fortune.

It wasn't most people got their hands on a PSX that people finally got to try the rest.

Nostalgia. This was a lot of people's first, and maybe only, fighting game.

ST is a bit wonky but it's simplicity makes it one of the coolest games to watch depending on the matchups. While sadly characters like O. Sagat and Vega exist matchups like Ryu vs Guile could have an essay written about them, they're just amazing to watch.

It really depends on what you value in a fighting game. Alpha 3 for example is a game I just can't get into, V-ism makes it feel like an absolute mess.

In Mexico SNK cabinets were cheaper then Capcom ones due to their lesser popularity. While arcades and such obviously had Capcom ones places like convenience stores and laundromats just wanted a cabinet to get some easy change, so of course they opted for the cheaper machines.

Super Turbo is always criticized by autists who don't want to learn one character and level them up. Even the old flags shit all over it.

There's nothing wrong with KoF BTW.
Just a different preference of fighting. Short hop cancels are cool I guess. You might as well play Garou.

ST teaches you to have clean inputs.
However, even at a semi serious level, it quickly becomes matchup learning more than strategy and exec. Pray that no one plays claw...

I think the worst part about Super Street Fighter is that the 4 added characters DeeJay, Cammy, Fei Long and T Hawk just aren't classic or memorable (except for MAYBE Cammy).

From a gameplay perspective they're fine and added a bit more variety but I feel most would agree. The newcomers feel sort of half assed compared to the original twelve. I think capcom would feel the same way if Cammy wasn't so popular. She added another vagina to the roster so of course people loved her, loving her so much that they seem to forgive (and forget) the other three.

There's a reason Fei Long, T. Hawk, and DeeJay aren't seen in every game.
