Sara is being controlled by Jedah but sometimes she can regain her consciousness for a short moment.
First two lines is manipulated Sara talking, the "ok" line is a moment when good sara regained her consciousness.
Actually she explains that in the English translation too. Jap reads mostly the same except she screams in pain a lot.

Fixed width fonts are fucking disgusting when used with alphabet based languages. They probably had to cut down a lot of dialog to make everything fit because their programmers couldn't be arsed to add a new font. Heard that's essentially what happened with Secret of Mana.

>> No.5548684

>>5548586
Two different things:
1 - Fixed width fonts affect how much text can be displayed onscreen at once.
2 - ROM size limitations, bank limitations, the lack of compression (LZ), the lack of dictionary entries that replace whole words, affect how much text can be physically present inside the ROM.

Atlus released SMT1 translated on phones not too long ago with a reasonably sized fixed width font. Terranigma had an unreasonably sized fixed width font (only room for 16 characters for each line)
The problem with this is (1) related, but is only a user inconvenience since the solution is to add lots of line breaks and break down a message that would use one box to multiple boxes the player has to spam the A button to get through. That problem plagued Pokemon R&B infamously and even with variable width fonts it was never really eliminated because localization writers love to make up bloat and can and will go over one message box.

The one thing (1) affects really is menu text. This is because menus spanned the entire screen and the SNES was too weak to generate variable width fonts for the entire screen (either the visual memory buffer was simply not there, or it caused massive lags if the game wasn't made from the ground up with it in mind)

Secret of Mana and likely Breath of Fire suffered from (2). Much of it was programmer incompetence, who would not tell the English writers they had a working compression (SoM), implement one for them repurposing existing control codes for kanji (BoF, Square was better on that front)

The best part of this game is how you go back to previously visted locations after getting a new key, morph or whatever. All in all, the game is a Dragon Quest clone (the Japanese subtitle even translates to Dragon Warrior), but an excellent one that did some things better than DQ did (see the shit about backtracking after you get a new key, etc.)

2 was a huge mess.
Capcom had a lot of great ideas but it feels like that game was in development hell since all of those ideas were implemented poorly and you can see that in the shaman system being useless most of the time and the dragon system being completely neutered because they thought the Dragon Transformations in 1 were too overpowered.

And then there's the issues of it having so much useless filler.
Right when the story gets interesting withwhat finding out the church and shit the story starts wrapping up when it should have been arguably only 1/3 of the game until then or at least 1/2.

Last time I touched that one. I'll try to figure it out again. I also remember it was fairly difficult in the sense that healing items were sparse or something like that.

>> No.5552097

>>5552021
I don't think you can screw up and start a fresh game accidentally. Are you sure you didn't mistake the fact your item list was emptied and levels reset as being a fresh save? Your item list never carries over, but everything else does (party XP, zenny, equipment, skills, fairy village progress, and anything in storage). If you game over and choose to restart, you also lose half of your party XP and zenny.

It's not that healing items are scarce, but you have no way of healing outside of items. No healing spells, or inns, so every HP you recover is bought and paid for by a limited pool of random drops and any money you make.

It's a great game, even if it's not that much of a BoF game (although I still think it did a good enough job with its story). You'r meant to do the SOL restore (go back to previous save with everything but item list, and levels/d-counter reset to that save), or SOL restart (same, but the game starts over), multiple times. More experienced players can easily do a no-SOL game, though.

Are you well nigga? Shadow Katt, Holy Jean are OP as fuck (550, single Target to Katt and 999, ALL TARGETS for Jean - it works on every enemy, including bosses and they COST NOTHING).
>dragon system being completely neutered
a 999 damage all attack that is instant somehow isn't the most powerful attack in the game - based retard, do you ever heard about W.Fruits?
>story is short
First act is for you to know what kind of guy Ryu is - honorable, loyal, corageous and strong - right until you kill Trout.
Second act is solving the misteries of the dying trees and finding out who the real enemy is - right until you Kill Aruhamel.
Third act is fighting against the church and St. Evan.

It's pretty well made and concise, actually. You get all the answers you need and all your friends get a arc - Bow stops being a thief; Katt learns to trust other people; Nina gets more confident in her powers; Stan faces his past; Jean is a piece of shit; Rand learns his mother actually really loved him in her own way; Spar is a robot; The only filler is SkyTwr - a whole dungeon just so you can pass a 10 meter long path in the mountains.
