I hate this console more than any other and I love Sega. My parents were kind of poor so they had to get it from some place where it was $349 in payments for 12 months. And for some reason at launch I wanted Chef's Love Shack and that was the worst game I ever played, my parents managed to return it but never bough me another game again.

I rented a few games and liked it like Jet Grind Radio, and had Dreamcast Magazine where the promised they were not going to abandon the console and like a few months later they abandoned it and stopped renting games at the stores.

Only thing I like Saturn more than Dreamcast for is platformers.

Shmups, fighters, quirky games that don't fit into a genre, sports games, adventure games, jarpigs, sims, FPS, all better on dat DC.

Its not. It is the only 6th generation system that /vr/ allows the discussion of. IF other 6th generation was "allowed" to be mentioned, no one would ever talk about the Dreamcast, because it was a commercial flop, and every exclusive was ported to other systems.

Its not a bad system on its own, but compared to its peers, it was the tombstone that marks the plateau Sega and its fans are buried on.

Do you believe everything you read on the internet, or only 4chan? The 6th gen is "retro". Of the 3 major systems of the 6th generation, the DC was the worst of the bunch, and that is the ONLY reason why we can discuss it because it is a commercial failure and the last attempt by sega to be king again.

>>5545223
>Great arcade experience at home without being Neo Geo
This was the only reason to own a DC, and arcades were dying when it was released. What is even more bizzarre is that the Neo Geo was created in the early 90s and official support ended totally in 2007. The Neo Geo and the DC had a lot in common for their target market, but Sega had too much invested in the dying market of arcades. My opinion is that the Neo Geo is still superior to the DC in many ways. Sega did make some great sports games, but loss of the license to EA or whoever really ruined it. I didn't get into sports, but reading the past reviews I get the idea that Sega made some of the best sports games ever.

Because it had top tier aesthetics and was different than your standard black or grey brick.
Because it was a pioneer in online gaming.
Because despite being the weakest overall of the 4 6th gen consoles, it had the overall best presentation of whatever ports came its way thanks to supporting VGA when everyone was still using muddy as fuck composite.

In 1999 Soul Calibur was a big leap from Tekken 3, as well as being fresh thematically. Sonic Adventure was fun, and it was awesome to finally be able to play Capcom arcade games in their perfect form without having to own a Saturn and import.

A subscription to Official Dreamcast magazine was a mere $20 and each issue came with a demo disc with lots of cool and interesting games on it.

By far the Dreamcast felt the most Japanese of any system released in the USA. But in a good, friendly way. A comfy way. Shenmue being the definitive example.
Those who bought a Dreamcast in 1999 felt like they were one of the cool kids. The ones getting to see and do everything that wouldn't come for another year or longer on the PlayStation 2.

Later, there was a massive homebrewing scene for it, and the ability to play emulated games without a mod chip was an incredible boon, as well of course as the ability to just pirate DC games, including games never released in the USA like KOF 2002.

Some years down the road used Dreamcasts could be found in pawn shops and yard sales for as little as $20. This was a crazy good deal for teens and people with not much money, because it gave you access to a library of great current generation games.

Some games like Capcom vs SNK 1 felt, I don't know... Dreamcast-y. Games on the Naomi/DC just have this turn of the millennium feel that wasn't present before that and never really took off on the PS2 and Xbox.

Are you fucking retarded, or just pretending to be one on 4chan? Dreamcast is most certainly a 6th generation console, and competed with the Gamecube, PS2 & the Xbox....and failed miserably. There is no comparing the technology present in it to any 5th generation systems. It may have been one of the first released consoles of the generation, but that is because of the previous shitty business decisions that Sega had made, and they absolutely needed returns on investment.

And? N64 was leaps and bounds ahead of the PSX and Saturn hardware-wise. Should it be considered its own generation too? Idiot.

Fact of the matter is, Sega had THREE systems during fifth gen: the 32X (died early), the Saturn (died halfway through it), and Dreamcast (died right as sixth gen was just picking up steam).

Successor to the 5th generation Saturn.

Yep, it is 6th generation just like the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube. You can live in your bubble all you want and make all sorts of bold claims, but your "no u" response provided no form of facts to back up your claim. The date of production is irrelevant, and someone had to release the "first" 6th gen console, and no one was waiting for y2k. Perhaps if they waited 2-3 years prior to release they may have had a chance, but if they did that fuckwits on /vr/ wouldn't have a 6th gen console to masturbate about.
