That group is known for their translations being full of nonsense that's not actually there. When ATLUS actually translated SMT for iOS, some fans were initially disappointed with it because it was so 'dry' compared to AG's; but in reality, the AG translation just had a bunch of edge-lord bullshit in it that was completely made up.

Let me put it in those terms.
The guy who translated SRW3 was a Brazilian translating from Japanese to Portuguese, then used Babelfish to translate from Portuguese to English. He also translated SRW Alpha.
If you read the SRW3, there are a lot of weird choices, like the infamous "F-Foolish", which is actually supposed to be "I-Impossible" (Baka na). The guy translated Baka as Foolish. So you can see that most of it was guesswork.

m8, not even a tenth as good as Alpha. It's a very repeatative game that mostly focuses on 3 shows for something like 40 stages. It's easily the weakest Alpha, so well liked only because A. English and B. some great highlight events.

The thing about @Gaiden is that the setting doesn't really help it. When everyone from a prior game is thrown hundreds of years into the future, you can't really have a very fun game. It's Xabungle and Gundam X for 80% of the game.

Now that I've played my fair share of translated SRWs, both official and unofficial, I can safely say the story of these games always sucks. It's long, boring and poorly written, which I guess it's to be expected when you have to account for dozens of different characters across multiple vastly different franchises. The occasional fanservice interaction between characters is nice but is not a great loss if you can't read it, the gameplay is all that matters.

Japanese expert here, people who bring up "talking like anime characters" with respect to Japanese are universally retards who don't know shit about the language. It's not like there's some kind of special dialect that anime characters speak, it's all just normal Japanese, with exaggerated phrasing at times. Language is way too complex to blanket off an entire medium as speech patterns to avoid, and the things you should avoid are things that are extremely and obviously rude, not things that "only anime characters say", at which point the concern isn't "don't talk like anime characters" it's "don't be a rude autistic sperg."

The real concern when it comes to learning Japanese is accidentally speaking like a girl. It can be easy to accidentally slip into feminine speech patterns if that's what you're more used to hearing. Also, being rude in general is pretty easy if you don't have a solid grasp on the language yet. Addressing someone with "you" instead of their name or title for instance is a huge faux pas that westerns are almost incapable of comprehending due to social differences.

I wanna get into SRW but appreciate the series as a whole through some of the older titles like the PSX shit and stuff. Anyone able to help lead me down an aight path without going in ACTUAL release order but getting a similar feel instead of skipping to the newest entries?

Literally all languages do this, Japanese just largely simplifies it down to grammatical forms. If this Feynman guy is so smart, surely he recognizes there's a difference between saying "Would you be interested in a look at my garden, sir?" and "Yo dude, check this shit out" in English too. The idea of casual and polite ways of talking is not exclusive to Japanese.

If you can moon then stick to the main series to get a feel for it. Classic series, Alpha series and Z series. Alpha 1 is that perfect blend between old and new and it's also easy as, making it noob friendly. If you were to play all 4 Alphas you'd go from classic style to modern style in 4 games, too. Frankly gameplay wise it'd be all the super robo you'd ever need to judge the franchise in that one subseries alone. If you can read the moonrunes. If you can't then you've got such slim picking anyway that recommendations don't even matter.

Don't play OG games first. The whole point of super robo is seeing your favourite characters and robots interact, you need to be introduced to them in other games to really get it. Without that very important factor, OG1 is just a boring samey game with nothing but watered down Gespensts forever.
