While I prefer the Jax that we got in Mortal Kombat II, I always did want to see and play with his yellow suit.
apparently it was the first fighter they fully digitized for MKII before later deciding to reshoot him for.. reasons.

So somewhere, someone has a box full of old eproms or a very old backup tape with this data still on it.
If I had Twitter I'd ask Tobias or Daniel Pesina, but Warner Brother's always watching so I doubt they'd answer.

Me too. I think what makes Zelda 64 (in all its stages) so fascinating is how many different iterations it went through and how grand some of the ideas were, like permanent footprints and a mask editor, as well as all the screenshots of places that don't resemble anything in the final game.

The trial rooms in Ganon's Castle are based on the older themes, which is why the Forest room has fans and the Water room has ice and why there is a Light trial. A lot of the rumors that there was a Light Temple hidden somewhere were because of the room in Ganon's Castle.

I do know that elements of Zelda 64 beta made it into Twilight Princess, including the Hyrule Sewers, the Sky Temple, the reed whistle (horse grass/horse call), and the Temple of Time being an actual level. The Forest Temple has some wind elements too.

Wow, I never even realized it, but you're right. Those must be holdovers from earlier iterations of the game. It was so much fun following the development of Zelda 64 back then. Nintendo.com would release new screenshots every other week, and there were exciting ideas being shown like the Medallion spells and sword beams that never made it into the final game.

>> No.5534015

There was that article a couple of years ago where ex-Midway staff talked about there being all these unique versions of NBA Jam (the original coin op). Apparently they made unique versions of the game for a load of actual NBA players with new characters of them and their friends, including one for Michael Jordan before his management made them remove him from the game proper. The Midway peeps involved even said that they still had the ROMs for these versions still, and would donate them to put them in MAME soon.
Two years later, nothing.

Makes you wonder just how much of Ocarina of Time's content in places like Ganondorf's tower, the ice cavern, and the Gerudo Training Grounds was simply older areas or content that they had worked on and didn't want to just discard. It would be fascinating to be able to go through the old betas and see how of these test areas we only got to see a little of made it into the final game and how much was the final refined versions.

Nice! Remember anything interesting? I've heard stories about stuff like Alpha 2 doing playtests that used a command buffer system for custom combos like they used later for tandems in Jojo rather than having it work in real time.

>> No.5534998

>>5534908
The thing I remember the most about early Alpha 2 was that Charlie was given a new crouching hop kick that they eventually removed, so you could advance with an attack while maintaining a down charge for a flash kick. It was pretty bad, helped promote turtling. I don't remember anything about CCs being different, they weren't a big part of my game until much later.

Always wondered if a dump of that version ever leaked. I don't emulate normally, but I'd probably download that to play again.

Michael Jordan wasn’t in any licensed NBA games during his active career I’m pretty sure. He was only in shit like Michael Jordan in the Windy City or whatever it was called. It was like a big deal that they got him to take a massive check to be in 2k

Apparently Jordan owned his own likeness and therefor was too expensive to license or something, but he saw how popular (and fun) the game was so he contacted Midway and asked if they could make a special version with him in it just for him.

>> No.5539006

Michael Jordan and Barry Bonds both did this, they retained their rights to negotiate licensing deals for themselves instead of letting the player unions in their respective sports do it for them.

We actually have the room in the 7th picture that anon up there posted. It was left in the debug rom. Also, we have a very early NPC character as well, from the era of development where the Mario 64 engine was used. We also have elements of the beta HUD, and the beta shield IIRC.

Are you sure this is properly beta content? It looks like that fan-made URA Zelda project that went down the drain how many years ago, based on the textures, and little wings on Link's head.

I remember being so excited about that project, but yeah, they were definitely going to include a bunch of shitty OC Donut Steal crap. A part of me would love to see another expanded game made in the style of Zelda 64, but it'll probably always have the same fate as the fan URA Zelda.

Both Jordan and Shaquille O'Neill were absent from a ton of video games because they had copyrighted their own name and likenesses and thus had to be licensed separately from the NBA license. And they were not cheap.

There's evidence that Hyrule Field was originally twice as large and Castle Town was in the center. Another weird thing is that the sides of the Temple of Time have collision data like you were supposed to be able to walk there.

I'm still curious why Navi speaks English even in the Japanese release if they had Japanese lines recorded before release.
