The whole picture. In a perfect world, she would actually be grasping the mug in her hand and there would be no kitchen background. Unfortunately, I think it will be too difficult to alter the image, given it's artstyle. Moving the mug to her hand would ruin it. Removing the kitchen background would ruin it because you would have to leave the food on the table in front of her or else you have strange white gaps in her shirt were it hasn't been drawn because the plates block it. So it probably has to go on the mug as is. I collect mugs of anime characters holding mugs, here's a few from my collection of game characters. Since the YU-NO anime adaptation is airing, getting this printed is a higher priority because I like to drink out of matching mugs while I watch the show.

Look closely and you can see part of the white surface of the top of the handle. And if you zoom in, it's easy to see that the front of the mug does have green tinges, as do other blue areas throughout the drawing, because of the limited palette used.

Anyway, is edited pic related more to your taste? I kind of prefer it, actually.

well it might work as a mug in it's current state, though the mug company that prints from rim to the base of the cup without leaving ugly white gaps doesn't offer a preview mode on it's site. I don't like to leave it up to the mug people, sometimes they mess up.

Not the Mug Guy, I work at a print shop and I can order them in bulk in whatever quantity I want (with pictures already applied) with manufacturer discount AND bulk order discount, so they'll be like 3-4$ for one.
I think they are even exact same manufacturer judging by the bottom stamp but I'm not sure (not in the shop r/n.)

Measure your existing cup height and circumference, Substract ~3mm from top/bottom, substract handle with and then another 3-4mm - that would be the full coverage of the printable area. Make an image in Photoshop with the dimensions you got, then place images in there however you like, without leaving any gaps if you like.

Or just ask them for about a coverage area or the template file they use for actual printing.

well I have to like the character before they can go on a mug. And they have to have a scene where they hold a mug or I can have them commissioned holding a mug if they never do and I like them enough. And the character has to have a neat design, I probably won't bother with a cookie cutter character even if they are good. And I was never a big Gundam fan. And the backlog of characters I need to get is long and my collection grows slowly. I still need to get Ryuko and Seras and Raphiel and Lina and maybe Gendo. Probably need Phoenix Wright too, and there's trails in the sky which has a million good characters. I also might need to get some mug reprints.
