Thank God for those FPGAs.

If collectorfags were smarter they’d realize supporting the FPGA and emulation industries does more for game preservation than personal hoarding.

>and emulation industries does more for game preservation
Games are just data, preserving them is trivial and everything important has been long ago dumped.

FPGAs (replicas) and emulators refer to preserving console hardware, not games.

Preserving anything is trivial, but we as humans do it anyway.

This problem only seems to affect SHVC SNES boards with the SCPU-A.

>> No.5473057

FWIW you can still get new 65816s from WDC.

>> No.5473081

I have a first revision SHVC SNES someone gave to me back in probably 1995 and it was busted when I got it (black screen). Another one I got from a flea market glitches out during Mode 7. Still a third I have only outputs video through the RF out.

The SNES doesn't use a stock 65816, it has a small custom modification. Specifically the CPU has two address buses, the normal 24-bit one and a separate 8-bit bus for communicating with the sound and graphics chips.

I've got a MD busted before, and both my SNES and SFC still work.
Anyway, what's with this thread? 12 replies but only 6 ips (now 7 with mine)

>> No.5474184

Something obviously went wrong with the first run of 5A22s used in early production SNESes. Perhaps a packaging or die contamination problem because that would explain the failures with the chips we're seeing.
