It was from an issue of Shounen Captain magazine from 1986, when the original Zelda was released.
In its pages, a girl with pink hair is cosplaying as Link.
It was considered an iconic magazine in Japan, and Nintendo returned the favor by making a homage in ALTTP by making Link's hair pink.
There you go.

I still really dislike LttP Link. He looks like a fat kid and the pink hair is off-putting.
I'm playing LttP right now, and it really makes me appreciate different design and aesthetic differences made for LA on gameboy. The shovel and over world map are excellent examples. LttP shovel is not satisfying and the digging sprite looks extra gay. The way the map is divided into a matrix and how you can move around on it to get little notes about places is great on LA.
I'm not saying LttP is pure garbage, and I can accept that it was innovative and a masterpiece in its own right--there's a lot of detail in much of the sprites, including the bosses (I'm up to dungeon 2 in the Dark World, still have to find the swimming shit), but I don't like a lot of the monsters and LA just feels like a better, condensed version in many respects.
