I like PE2, and have fond memories of playing it 18 years ago. But at the same time, it really strikes me how different it is from the original. It feels like a new series with only superficial elements tying it to the original. Might as well be a new series.

It's more or less a Resident Evil clone with magic and no zombies. I really miss the world map from PE and how you got to explore all of NYC. I was hoping you'd do the same with LA. Instead you spend time in some desert town.

Playing the first Parasite Eve for the first time after first reading the novel it's a sequel to was the best gaming experience of my life.

It was made by different people.

The description of Aya looking into the general store in Drytown when you first arrived unnerved the hell out of me, something along the lines of, "It's too dark to see inside- ...! - you notice someone staring right back at you."

The Chaser NMC introduction and the giant one in the cave were pretty damn haunting, too.

PE2's developers included the scriptwriter for Resident Evil 1 and some of the art guys for RE1 and RE2.

Drytown is so fucking weird. Yeah there's a bunch of goddamn monsters outside but it's safe inside your apartment room to sleep and wash up leaving yourself completely vulnerable?

They couldn't think of something cooler than a desert down in the middle of nowhere? RE1-2 had way better setting.

The enemies are portrayed more like animals who are a bit more vicious. The Llama things are basically animals. Most of the others are kinda chill. You straight up massacre most of them hanging around the place, so I'd consider it pretty safe overall.

If I played re1 would I like this?

i played 2 first, then went back for 1 a few years later, and yeah, they may as well have been different games

about the only things I liked about 1 were ayas appearance and the comfy 80s or 90s police station

2 looked better, had better music, better gameplay, everything, and I know most people disagree but I loved the hell out of 2, much moreso than the RE games

I still say it reminds more of The Galerians than RE

PE1-2 are both worth playing. PE1 is like Final Fantasy with RE style setting and modern guns and semi-real time battles. PE2 is more of a straight RE clone, and one of the better ones.

One of the things I liked was how it was played straight of how Aya was the only one to handle the ARK due to her mitochondria preventing her from being burnt from the inside out. NMCs like Golems were just glorified riot cops, and despite being genetically modified superfreaks, there were no anime physics involved in their slaughter, they got their shit handed to them by a squad of marines like a bunch of sword-wielding dinks should.

>>5457315

Yeah, it was kind of strange how chill she was about just casually going about the whole town being deserted and its inhabitants run off, dead, or holed up in a trailer. She's probably the most dangerous thing in the entire area though, so she can get away with it.

It's one of those isolated settlements that barely qualify as towns out there in the Mojave, it's actually a pretty good horror setting seeing as the only people left is Douglas and his dog after everyone else ran off or died.

It’s a good setting. Are you telling me a generic mansion and midwestern city is much better?

Maybe Aya wouldn't be afraid, but I swear to god, If I saw one of those fucking... Long necked THINGS with their big red eyes staring at me through my apartment window at night while I was trying to go to bed. I would absolute shit myself. Even if I supernatural mitochondrial powers to kill anything that was up to some shit.

Interesting. Are the games based on the novel, or is the novel based on the games? I have zero experience with PE, btw.

Hmm, I just wiki'ed it and the game WAS based on the novel. Neat.

It's one of those dusty desert towns that barely qualify as towns and more like stopovers for people driving through the area for gas or sleep for the night. I can't think of a single comfy thing about a place like that, but can think of a million scary and fucked up things that could go down. The whole place seemed like it wasn't in good shape even before the NMCs started mucking about.

I love PE2 but years later when I bought PE1 for the PS3 I finally got why there were so many faggots dismissing the second game. Not that PE2 is bad, it is actually a legitimately good game, but the setting of the first one is 10 times better. The gameplay differences are a matter of opinion, though.

>they got their shit handed to them by a squad of marines like a bunch of sword-wielding dinks should.
It might be a little bit autistic but that was hands down one of the most memorable gaming moments for me, seeing the marines function like a ton of soldiers would in real life after basically being a videogame-y solo badass whose backup never shows up, and then getting to hang around the temporary base was great.
