I play Shinobi 3, about every week on expert I ramp up the difficulty by playing with no shurikens as well. Its still a fun game if anything one of the best platforms ever-made. The music, gameplay, graphics as OP mention are very solid, one of the favorite stages is the last stage of the game and I grew fond of stage 6 traps, and came to appreciate the music of that stage. I also shed a tear at the ending of the game once.

Revenge of Shinobi to me, is the hardest in the series that one I have a huge fucking hard time beating. Still a great game tho.

The only good Shinobi games are the first two for arcades and Revenge.

The problem I found with Shinobi 3 is that they made it incredibly easy. The same thing happened with Super Castevania IV.

Though both are very much worth playing, arcade ver has tighter level/boss design and better balanced challenge while the MD version has badass presentation and smoother gameplay without the clunky inputs/mechanics of arcade.

Honestly, a lot of the difficulty in revenge seemed to stem from repeatedly demanding pixel-perfect execution of the wonky double jump mechanic or pure cheese like getting tagged by projectiles from off-screen. I can live without that shit.

Count me as another vote for III being better (or at least more fun) than Revenge. Also, Castlevania IV is fucking great.

Outside of the elevator I enjoy all the autoscrolling sections. The horse and jet board(?) stages are always fun and the falling rock stage which I hated as a kid is a good challenge.

I stumbled on this for $12 at my local game exchange like 3 days ago, so far I enjoy it way more than revenge, which I used to only play when I felt like punishing myself into frustration as a kid
