I can't play it for real since I don't own it, but I could emulate it and I have in the past and I already know it's still fun. Not *as fun*, but I'm not a kid anymore anon. Swapping the sprites would still leave a satisfying game and I like your idea. I propose all the fighting game chicks naked with giant dildo bosses.

Equally badass. Eh, TMNT was slightly cooler than The Simpsons at that point, but not by a ton. They were both massively popular, and I love them both. Even the NES TMNT "Arcade Game" was damn good for its time. It was one of the games that directly led to more respect being given to arcade ports.

They're not terrible other than the Amiga port, but that one was never actually completed because the developer went bankrupt and they just leaked the unfinished game to a BBS.

The C64 port...eh...the graphics are nice but they replaced the music with some Jeroen Tel OC donut steal soundtrack and there's no two player mode.

>Even the NES TMNT "Arcade Game" was damn good for its time. It was one of the games that directly led to more respect being given to arcade ports
It had the advantage of being a late NES title made when programmers really understood the hardware well--for example, the game is programmed to very carefully not put more than two enemies in a row with your turtle to avoid going over the 8 sprite per line limit.

Early NES arcade ports like Commando tended to be glitchy messes.

Bart vs the Space Mutants on the NES, developed by Canada-based Imagineering Software. I can see they did not code the screen split very well since the score/status bar jerks constantly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXMJa5M8LSM

The Master System port is sort of its own thing, it redoes a bunch of stuff including the game music and you also have a mini-boss battle with Nelson in Level 1 instead of just dodging a skateboarding Jimbo.

That was wise of them. I love Commando NES, but it is a glitchfest in every respect.

Commando was one of the very earliest NES games that Capcom developed. Some other early Capcom arcade ports like 1942 were done by Micronics and are garbage.

The big arcade companies mostly wrote off home video games as a joke in the early days and didn't bother doing them in-house, they just outsourced development. For example, Micronics did Capcom arcade ports in the beginning and Data East's initial Famicom titles were done by Namco (one of the only arcade companies to embrace the Famicom early on).

Also here's the C64 TMNT, US and European versions. The US version has ear-rape music which was fixed in the European version and sounds way better.

This was done by the same guys who did Castlevania and Metal Gear for the NES and those also have nails-on-chalkboard music, except unlike TMNT they weren't released in Europe so it was never fixed.

Yeah I have nostalgia for Bart vs Space Mutants, the first level actually makes you feel you're in Springfield, and once you knew what to do, it was kinda fun, although some of it was a bit cryptic.
Bart vs The World wasn't as interesting, but I still played and beat it back then. I guess I was a big Bart fan.
I also kinda enjoyed Bart's Nightmare, at least for the presentation, the street hub also made you feel in Springfield, with faithful art style from the show (also kinda reminds me of Earthbound), and the mini games were mostly shit but I enjoyed the Bartman one and Bartzilla.
Never cared much for Virtual Bart.
