best rareware game ? pics related

>> No.5436983

not their best game by far, a technical achievement for the n64 perhaps though, and it didn't even use the ram expansion. The multiplayer is where it's at. I've tried many times toget through the campaign and I always get bored or lose my patience, it's just not that fun, and I've never gotten past the poo mountain section or whatever it is.

I think the DKC trilogy was some of their best work

Shouldn't have to pick one--I love the style of CBFD and have so many memories but the gameplay doesn't hold up great. Goldeneye funny enough holds up really well once you get used to the controls (decades of Halo and CoD have changed everyone's perception of shooter controls). DKC2 is probably peak Rare when it comes to pure playability and fun.

I played it last night to show my girlfriend why I grew up to drink and swear so much. Man, I forgot how much the challenge ramps up at the spooky part. Those zombies are bullshit.

As for whether it's the best rare game? Out of BK/BT/DK conker presents the most challenge for adults I would say. It's also just plain funny. Great to play with your buddies drinking beers.

>CBFD

I once heard this game being described as a "highly polished piece of shit." That's pretty apt, desu

Rare's best depends on the genre. They made quite a few N64 games.

I'm playing it now and it's not bad. Good controls, varied gameplay, and nice puzzles/world design.

It's not bad but the juvenile edgy presentation really does it no favors. People says it's "adult humor" but it's more like stuff for kids that want to feel like grown-ups, so it comes off as edgy and childish instead. And since it's so in-your-face about it, it becomes kinda hard to separate it from the raw gameplay.

>but it's more like stuff for kids that want to feel like grown-ups

That's exactly what it is. As a kid, going from banjo to conker was absolutely mind blowing. I couldn't believe such crazy shit could be ina video game and you better believe everyone at school was talking about it. This is a game made for kids to play with a cool uncle.

>conker
>good controls
Pick one. Even with the original N64 controller Conker controls terribly if you need to jump to specific ropes or swim in THOSE stages. Even with all those gimmicks later in the game like using guns and driving on a hover board it's still much worse than other nominated N64 classics. Which now that I think about it, I'm surprised everyone was up in arms about Shadow the Hedgehog and the game he starred in because he's got a gun and it's "not fitting" and "too edgy" for Sonic games while nobody seems to bat an eye when Conker wields a gun in a Rareware game during several levels, especially when those are the most memorable ones for some like the zombie level and the Saving Private Ryan parody level. For the record, we're talking about the same company that made games like Diddy Kong Racing which is arguably one of the text-book examples of 'kiddy Nintendo games'. Is this the power of projecting teenage Nintendo haters who only bring up downplaying points for Nintendo games when it's convenient to them?

>> No.5438893

>>5438861
Jumping to ropes is more of a problem with the game's camera which is admittedly flawed (devs even admitted Mario 64 had a better camera than their game). The swimming controls are fine, though. Git gud. The zombie killing controls on the other hand are practically identical to Resident Evil 4's despite predating that game by 4 years.

Conker wasn't put in the same basket as Shadow the Hedgehog because Conker isn't shown as an edgelord. In-universe he's presented as straddling the line between cool everyman and deadbeat loser

>> No.5438917

>>5438861
The only thing you're right about is jumping to those damn ropes. That was terrible. I don't know what you're on about with the rest of that stuff about sonic and guns. Why would people complain about guns in this of all games?

>> No.5438941

The developers obviously let their teenage angst out in this game.

Killer Instinct on the SNES. Everyone loved SF2 Turbo, but this was my favourite fighting game on Nintendo's 16-bit box. And yeah, it's probably my fave RARE game - even better than the FPS titles, the platformers _and_ the awesomeness that is Blast Corps. Erm... I do like fighting games, so there could some bias...

Heh...

"you gonna talk snes"

Is that a question, cumdrinker? It's hard to tell, what with your inability to construct a sentence properly. Window licking fucktard.

"get a grip"

Yes, I'm obviously out of my fucking mind. Eh?

"you have the arcade version and you're like
>hurr durr KI snes"

Don't own an arcade board and MAME is dependent on the hardware it's running on. And if it's a good ROM/CHD dump.

"...port the fucking arcade itself
even in a phone..."

What kind of moron plays a fighting game on a phone? Are you a spastic?

"fucking nintendicksuckas"

I don't own an XBOX One, so the SNES port is the only real way I can play a decent/somewhat accurate version of the game.
