Okay, let's bring this thread back.

Here's some points of discussion:

1.) Project showoffs
2.) Hacking help
3.) ROM hack recommendations

A new ROM hack recommendation list will be compiled, so post your own lists below.

>> No.5418949

I think the last thread only died off because of the time limit on /vr/ threads now. It was 7 days for a couple weeks, and now it's 14 days. Bumps won't work after that, so just make a new thread if you want to keep it going.

>new romhack rec list
Ok, we need a separate list for all general QoL/Improvement hacks. VWF hacks, adding save features, slow-down removal, bugfixes, stuff like that. That way we have a list for those looking for a new experience, and those who just want some fixes.

2 player coop isnt a qol, its just an extra mode added to the game. It adds a new way to play with friends, it doesnt nerf a mechanic which is what qol "improvements"do. You are a dumb one, but what more can you expect from somebody asking for qol shit?

Regarding the Pokemon games, I've been curious about two things; is it possible to make a hack of the games to increase the level cap from 100 to 255? I imagine it's a lot easier said than done since it could potentially screw up the math. Secondly, is it possible to use RBY's music in GSC, basically is the sound drive backwards compatible? I'd search for hacks that incorporate either, but I'm not sure what keywords they used for naming them.

I assure you that limits were instituted on /vr/ around the beginning of February. It's easily provable as >>5431286 points out. Use the catalog browser and sort by creation date, then scroll down to the bottom and try unsuccessfully to bump any thread older than 14 days.

You'll now notice that there are never threads still around after they're about 15 days old, because they get pushed off within a day or so after bumping has stopped. The board used to have several regular threads that would live for well over a month. /rhg/ was one of them.

>> No.5431350

>>5431343
Okay, okay. So I'm out of the loop.
The question here is why?

>> No.5431402

The ghostbumper. It's easier for the mods to just make every thread die after 7-14 days than to rangeban the cunt.

>> No.5431403

>>5431350
For months, someone was making and/or propping up multiple junk/redundant threads at the same time. They would post a one-word bump in each thread and then quickly delete that post to keep each thread's post count from rising. They did this countless hundreds of times to keep the threads alive and taking up space on the board for as long as possible.

People noticed and clearly tried to get the mods to do something about it, which they were either unwilling or unable to do at the time. As a result of the inaction, vigilantes then repeatedly overturned the whole board to try to bump off as many junk threads as they could by bumping everything else instead. Over and over again, this caused the average time it took for an unbumped /vr/ thread to die to drop from about a day to just a few hours before recovering over the following couple of days.

The mods finally had enough of both sides of the turmoil and capped bumping at 7 days for a couple weeks, then they relaxed it to 14 days. They pretty much did the minimum possible thing they could do to make everyone stop bitching. It was basically them saying "Don't bother us and just wait out problem threads until they die." It may have lessened the specific problems that were happening, but it's also harming a lot of regular threads that used to last a lot longer, which will probably result in more problems down the road.

If you like Super Metroid Romhacks, i recommend Hyper Metroid for sure. Larger map, interesting new takes on abilities, and very different item and boss progression. There is zero need to know any special tricks or glitches and it has great game flow. I only had to stop and look something up once out of frustration, but it turned out i was just doing something wrong. The areas and maps look fantastic, there are new ways to combine and use your beams, and the escape sequence is incredible.

It's not perfect, the large map did lead to some frustration with going around and trying to find things i was missing. Sequence breaking is also a little tough because the enemies you run into are tweaked to match the amount of power you should have by the time you're supposed to be in certain areas, but thats about it. It definitely lacks the things that tend to frustrate me about SM hacks.

It's fairly new, released in 2015 i think, but i played through it last year and it was a blast. First hack that really made the experience feel fresh.

I love Castlevania III, and for the most part, the Japan version (Akumajou Densetsu) is better, but I feel like Grant's infinite throwing knife is one step over the "gamebreaker" line. What I want is a patch that gives Grant the stabbing knife from the US version, and also has him start every life with a throwing knife sub-weapon which costs hearts as always. Basically, a mix of his two versions that's a little more balanced.
