Out of the average users spend with a modern AAA title, subtract 30-40% for useless wasted shit.

I hate pointless achievements. I've played some games where every achievement was for something that was mandatory to beat the game. So literally anyone who played through the game also got 100% achievements. If beating a level or game isn't rewarding enough in itself, there is a problem.

I quite like daily challenges for multiplayer games, but they . can go fuck themselves if they want me to 100% something.

A good way doing achievements in my opinion:
>play through the game
>achievements are now unlocked
>have skill based achievements for levels which alter the way you would normally play them, eg managing to not use Main weapon during Level, or changing enemies etc...
>actually earn something when getting an achievements like New costume. Battle Mode, hidden Story, time attack, Boss fight Mode, etc...

Achievements should be more than just a Emblem of doing it. It should be for people who want to enjoy the game more and give them New obstacles, as well as make them master the game for the other modes

They're a cancer in co-op games. Don't Starve Together has a major issue on console because of cunts logging into servers just for achievements and not actually contributing. I just wish modern games would keep track of your stats, and maybe inform you if you're on track toward or have gone a while whilst achieving something spectacular.

A game can track what little damage you've received and lives lost and there can be a pop up telling you that you're on the way toward completing the game without a single life lost.

I guess they can be fun sometimes but it's not like I play a game just to get some achievements. Even in modern games on Steam I just ignore them and eventually look at it later on for a second or two, think "uhuh, OK" and then I move on.

I'm not a fan of the whole retro achievements thing cause if I want to challenge myself with replaying a game I'd rather play it in a specific way like getting a 1CC/do a no-death or no-continue run or like speedrunning it on any% or 100% or some other idea related to it or just do another casual run if it's a long game that I haven't played in a long time. I don't need an achievement system for that.

I always check the achievements after beating a game to see if there's any fun challenges I might want to attempt. Sometimes I like to do silly shit in games but it's not clear if what I'm trying to do will actually be possible, so it's kind of cool to have an achievement that indicates to me that some silly thing I was trying to do can actually be done. For example, in HL2:E2 there's this garden gnome you can get at some point in the game and you can get an achievement if you carry it with you to the end of the game. Normally I might try to carry the gnome with me for a bit but then stop after a while when it gets too bothersome, but knowing there's an achievement for it gives me some added motivation to see if I can actually do it. That's when achievements are at their best, when they act as motivation for challenging yourself rather than just as a counter for some arbitrary grind or badges you get on every level completion.

>> No.5441338

>>5441242
That's what I do with achievements as well. If It's a game I liked enough to play through to the end It's usually one I want to keep playing and though it's fun coming up with your own challenges, it's cool when the achievements have some fun ones as well.

RA is pretty fun, and I've liked using it. problems:
- all achievements are user-done, so each game has entirely different standards for what should and shouldnt be an achievement
- too many achievements for doing plot-critical stuff that doesnt necessarily require effort
- (from my understanding) achievements were made for early xbox 360 games, which are a lot bigger and have multiplayer in contrast to these earlier games
- too many copy/paste challenges i.e., Beat world 1 pacifist, world 2,3,4,etc.
- you can't use it on real hardware. Obviously, but still.
- because it's a memory hijack and nothing more, 6th gen is somewhat out of the picture. Sucks because those games are more achievement-accomodating
- Cringy names/descriptions (but its a little charming)
- What OP said. its really ridiculous having achievements like Collect A Mushroom. Wow, Thanks
