That one is a 10 replogle globe made sometime in 1959. Alaska is listed as a US state, but Hawaii is still a territory. It is in rough shape, but holds up well. Its neat as a conversation piece.

I keep a classic controller pro plugged into a wiimote and that avoids having to use the "features" on the wii system menu. Also, you can use priiloader to force the system to start the homebrew channel or a usb loader by default, and the GC controller works fine from there. I don't play many GC games, but I do like DK Jungle beat.

I'd like some advice if you fine lads are up to it.
I'm running a laptop's VGA output through an Emotia Plus for downscaling purposes. The downscaling itself works very well, but I can only ever get a black & white picture on the CRT. This is happening through both S-video and composite outputs which are both good cables. I'm thinking the issue is with the VGA female-to-female adapter on the input, some problem with color depth, or something wrong with the Emotia itself.
Unfortunately I can't test RGB output because I'd need a card for my JVC and my other screen only has component.

Yes, the TV is set to NTSC and the emotia can freely switch between PAL/NTSC. The picture is great, de-interlaced nicely and everything, but simply no color. I can't show a picture right now since nothing is set up atm but I will post one eventually

If that's the back, you can use composite or s-video, but there's no RGB on that set. It defeats the purpose of a PAL/RGB Gamecube. I don't even know if Gamecube does s-video.

Bring it on! I am still looking for a mint dish to sit on the top of mine. Lets see who has a more geriatric looking CRT! My main reason for buying it was specifically for the 25" tube for a future Arcade cab, but it looks and works great even with s-video ....and the sound coming out of it is the best I have ever heard sound coming from a stock TV. If I EVER find the 27" model, I will buy it pretty quick. The picture itself is soft, but overall its a great s-video television.

I don't know what the supply of CRTs is where you are, but I would question driving more than a half hour to pick up one of these, but its not a bad set IF it works.

Random CRT question, picked up a small 10 inch early 80s TV for a song, has RF only. The TV comes on but 9 times out of 10 when I plug an RF cable into it, the TV immediately shuts off. The few times it does work, the screen is all scrambled. Any reason for this or should I just dump it? And yes I know RF sucks but I bought it for the wood grain form factor, reminds me of the first tv I played atari and nes on.

I got lucky and found a pretty decent professional monitor where I work. After using an OSSC though, I don't think it makes a massive difference in the way it looks to use a modern set with good scaling versus a professional monitor. At least when using high quality cables. It has a few other benefits but I'd say for most people, it's probably best to either use a consumer set with component cables or get an OSSC.

Just ordered a memory card with MCFB on it and a cheap SCART cable for my PS2, looking forward to playing some burned PS1 games. It's nice that the PS2(at least the fat, not sure about the slim) offers Toslink audio so you can cheap out on your RGB cables and not have to worry about buzzing audio for lack of shielding.

I have a curved and a flat CRT, and they are different enough to consider them totally different. They both look great, and both work as CRTs obviously, but they both have a distinctive look. I would say that the curved one has a more typical look, while the flat screen model seems to almost have the look of a monitor. It is almost too "crisp". However, games look amazing on both. I don't get too hung up on pixel perfection. Color quality, yes..but being able to see scanlines is irrelevant.

I have an old set of Boston acoustic speakers that work great with one of my CRTs, but my other one catches all sorts of magnetic interference from them. It sucks because I would love to hook them up to the TV that can't handle it.

Got a PVM20L2 for $250. Not the best price, I think – I passed up an opportunity to buy this exact model for $70 and maybe could pick up more than one if I drove 2 hours away several months ago. I wonder if the person I bought it from did just that?

Getting bored:
In the last 3 weeks I finished Chrono Cross which I started in August and had a few long breaks. I beat Castlevania SoTN, and I beat Ogre Battle 64. I don't know what I want in a game right now, but I really liked how SoTN was a short game, but had quite a bit of depth. I like RPGs, but also wondered if there were shorter ones than Final Fantasy. I don't know if I have the patience for that duration of time right now. 2 out of the 3 games I have beaten in the last few weeks have been 40+ hour games. Any of the cart based systems will last a long time, with minor fixes to capacitors. Short of a lightening strike, they are going to continue to be easy to maintain. CD/DVD based systems on the other hand need TLC & we are just starting to get into optical drive emulation. Once the mechanical drives are converted to solid state, they too will also have a long shelf life.

The WORST thing that you will find inside of a used CRT is cockroach eggs, but if you buy a CRT that is full of dead and alive bugs, it is not worth it either way.

"240p lines" are a side effect of the technology, not a feature. I am sure your mom warned you about sitting so close to the tv. Just know that even at a safe viewing distance, the lines are still there, and do have an effect on the overall screen appearance.

Pretty fucking good actually. There is very minimal lag on them though autistic parrots will say differently. It's so minimal you can do the log jump in Mr. Gimmick without planning ahead.
Basically if your setup has lag, you have to press the button right before he touches the log over the waterfall. With a "lag free" setup you can sit on the log before pressing jump and not fall to your death. There are very few exceptions that I've found that are as punishing to lag as this section on level 2 of Mr. Gimmick.

I'm also looking for the best way to test a CRT on the go. I was thinking about a Pi Zero with the 240p test suite, but that would only work for composite. Professional RGB pattern generators are way too expensive, even used. A DVD player with a test DVD is not really portable.

Just got a JVC TM-H150CG with the RGB/component card and I hooked up one of my DVD players to it via component cables (using BNC connectors), however I'm getting a magenta image. Does your monitor need flipped from RGB to component? I know on my sonys you have to flip one in a menu and on the other there is a physical switch. If your monitor is expecting RGB and being fed component it will be pink or green if you feed rgb to a component monitor.

Wii 240p test Suite as a homebrew. A set of cables should be fairly cheap, with the official s-video ones being the most expensive. You should be able to get component, composite and s-video for $40 or less. For someone comparing/collecting CRTs, it is a great tool. instead of using the sensor bar, you can substitute it with a classic controller or controller pro to navigate the system menu. You can also use Priiloader to force the unit to start in a backup-loader menu and use a gamecube controller.

Had a friend over last night and we watched all three Star Wars movies. Looked great and the matte shots were gorgeous. The softness of analog video really helps a lot of the special effects to look better.

Finally picked up the rebadged Sony Trinitron that I've asked about a couple weeks ago. Sharpness and color are amazing and I'm gonna have to spend a lot of fucking time adjusting the picture fitment, however I'm having another issue. It's very greyish even with the contrast turned all the way up. Is this some sort of defect or an age issue that commonly affects CRTs or Trinitrons in particular, and can it be fixed?

Assuming you mean grey blacks, it's a brightness issue which is common with the FD Trinitron PC CRTs. Screen voltage "G2" is controlled in software on these sets and requires you to connect up to it via a serial connection and dedicated software (winDAS).
If you mean grey blacks and just relatively poor light output, it could be the previous bit plus it having seen a hell of a lot of use and has just grown dim as such. Sadly, there really isn't a fix for this aside from cranking the contrast as high as you can manage without throwing other things off, and that is just going to rush things even further.

Plug something into it to provide it with a signal. If you still don't get any picture, it may be a blown transformer. If you don't hear any noises when you turn it on & you can't get a picture, there is something wrong. If you have never worked on a CRT, read a few guides before you start poking around. Discharge it before you touch anything.

I bought a GDM-FW900 from ebay a few years ago. I was home when fed-ex quite literally dropped it on my porch and tried to walk off. In the case of the Apple II this included "any colors at all". Its video chip could only output black+white luma, no chroma component. any colors you saw on the screen were 100% a byproduct of NTSC failing to render high frequency monochrome patterns correctly.

Your damned right. This was in early 2000s, when GDMs were cheap. I don't know what a PVM weights, but the GDM is a very heavy CRT. Somehow I found one "locally" that a studio had but they were going out of business. I got to pick the best one of 3, and it lasted me from 2002 until 2 months ago when the flyback shit the bed. I drove 2 hours to get that CRT, and paid $100 for it in 2002. I think I got my money's worth. I only did this after Fed-Ex destroyed the one I paid $300 for months earlier. I still have the heavy bastard even thought he flyback is shit-shot. I do plan on replacing it, as it is a really nice monitor.

Just got GCHD MK-II scart cables from Retro Access in the mail today and this is the result I get when plugged into my 2530. I’ve tested my other consoles with scart cables and they all work fine, my GameCube works fine with composite cables, and the GCHD MK-II itself works fine with HDMI cables.

I do. They're great for VHS and badly encoded MP4s;etc. Plus it's fun to watch certain movies on CRT, making them almost interactive, like with Back to the Future and Night of the Living Dead. What would cause the inputs on a PVM to be super sensitive? Sometimes a channel will just cut out and when I wriggle the connector all of the inputs start going haywire until they're all just right.

Solutions:
Clean contacts with rubbing alcohol
try different cables

you can also try the same source and cables on a different set, and see if issue continues

I got a 20" Emerson CRT TV, I have it about 1.5ft away from my LED monitor, can the CRT turning on and its degaussing or electromagnetism cause any issues to my monitor?

Mortgage is fine because you need a place to live and you build equity – you can actually make money off of a mortgage when you sell if you sell when the market is high.
Car payments are bad debt IMO, you should have gotten a clunker until you could afford a nicer car as cars always (except for classic cars, but nothing made nowadays will ever be classic) depreciate in value, but it's still fine.

I Have one of "them" drop-offs for clothing near my house. People use it as a dumpster, and Every week there is at least 1 CRT in the 14"-20" size left beside their collection bin. I keep meaning to call them to ask if they even take CRTs. Firstly I would like to know if their retail store sells them. Secondly IF they don't take them, I would ask if they would mind if I did. I have seen nothing too spectacular yet, but by the same token, I really would like to RGB mod my Zenith, but am too scared of making a mistake. I would rather fuck up some junk tv instead of my living room set.

14" Toshiba TV/DVD Combo, composite. Can't find the remote or get any universal remote or remote app to work with it so this is default. Maybe the IR receiver is broken? Kind of sucks since it just needs a very slight adjustment, and the geometry is good.

CGA is another example, but there are only a few games that support 16 color composite, don't have an EGA/VGA mode, and are even worth playing. The technical aspect of it is really cool though. Really blows the water out of all the sharp pixel nuts on here. Even more ironic it was home computers that took advantage of ntsc artifacts.
