Considering Belzebub is its own .exe and uses the diabdat.mpq for the resources, that makes sense.

For people who play Belzebub and use the Diablo CD, I recommend copying the diabdat.mpq from the CD and putting it in the Belzebub folder, that way you don't have to read it from the CD, and won't get interrupted by occasional load times, as the program can just access the resources directly.

>> No.5420857

>>5420832
True, but this comes packaged with Windows 10 compatibility and resolution options. At any rate, GOG doesn't do DRM so you can just go steal this package as soon as someone shares it.

I'm fine with GOG when they offer me something that's worthwhile. Like, trying to install and run a game like Simcity 3000 on Windows 7 or Windows 10. The stuff on the disc barely starts up half the time, and when it does run, it crashes at the drop of a hat. I looked around for a while but couldn't find any patch or solution that worked, and compatibility mode did nothing.
The GOG release installs the game and runs smoothly, without crashes, and it also has the expansion available as an option.
So in *this specific instance*, GOG was a good option for me, I don't mind paying a few dollars for a convenient solution.

But looking at some games such as say, Doom, where it's easy to just pirate the wads, or you outright bought it back in the day, there's a dozen different sourceports (allowing anything from original and unmodified gameplay, to whatever crazy mod you could imagine) available for free, there's precious little reason to buy GOG's release of that game.

This is official release with Blizzard's blessings. It's not like GOG decided to sell it on their own, also since it's now available for purchase (with support through GOG and Blizzard.com) then it's no longer abandonware. You should try looking up the definition of the word.

>>5424112
I highly doubt that's the only thing they do, since I can run their installer straight out the box without issue, while the disc version of, for example, Simcity 3K doesn't work at all.
That goes farther than just slapping a patch on it and calling it a day.

Smith? Do you mean Butcher? He was an asshole in Vanilla too.

>> No.5426531

>>5426517
Nah, I've dealt with the Butcher already. That encounter is actually different in this mod. Nope, I'm talking about the Smith. It uses the same model as the Butcher but it's extra strong and hasted. They said this mod would be tougher and I didn't believe it at first because it was smooth sailing up until this prick.

im using these fine clothes and this negro still looks like fucking kazam, there is no fashion in this game or what?

>> No.5426617

>>5426531
It's somewhat tougher, yeah.
If you're a warrior, expect Izual to fucking rape you. Cold magic is an absolute bitch in this game, the dude is like Duriel on Nightmare.

>>5426556
There's three types of armor; light, medium, and heavy.
Light armor (such as what you have there), looks like the base appearance/unarmored, while medium armor is mails and stuff, which generally looks more spiffy, and heavy armor, which is bulky and cool.

Sorcerer looks pretty cool in mail, you're down in the Catacombs so you should be able to find some very soon. Mind that's a unique item you have on there, which can have some pretty good properties.
Are you playing vanilla or a mod?

>> No.5426625

>>5426556
You'll need to build your strength stat a little if you want to wear heavier armor, mind. Or use items which boost your strength.

Sorcerer caps at 50 strength (but he can have so much more magic than the other classes instead). Put some points in that every now and then.

we are assuming the lord god Activision Blizzard would agree to that, GoG's deal sometimes are at the mercy of the publishers. Hell it's likely why the asking price is 9.99 rather than their usual 5.99 for such an old title

This might have been in the works beforehand. GoG brought up they were in talks with them last year and the Bethesda deal to get Fallout back on GoG took over a year.
Also if this was shameless marketing they just put it on their storefront and not a 3rd party's.

What are the chances that GOG would implement the mousefix mod into the game, so you can select multiple units via drag-and-drop and give orders via right mouse click like a normal human being and not through command shortcuts like some autistic monkey?

If anyone's interested, you can actually get Hellfire to work with GoG Diablo, and thus get the higher resolution and ability to play without crashing on newer systems.

1. Create Hellfire folder on your GoG Diablo folder
2. Copy these files to your Hellfire folder from Hellfire cd or iso:
>hellfire.exe
>hellfire.mpq
>HELLFRUI.DLL
>hfmonk.mpq
>hfmusic.mpq
>hfvoice.mpq
>storm.dll
3. Download Hellfire Enchanced Mod, and copy all contents to your Hellfire folder. Replace everything that you are asked to.
4. Set your resolution and graphics settings to what you want with GoG Diablo settings.
5. Copy the ddraw.dll, dxcfg.exe and dxcfg.ini files from Diablo\dx into your Hellfire folder
6. Start playing Hellfire without crashes from hellfire.exe

the price is higher because there was actual porting involved

instead of slapping in dosbox and calling it a day or developers were wizards and Win95 executable compiled 20 years ago still somehow works on Win10 and can be sold as is (example: MDK)

Thread warning: Do NOT buy Diablo, or anything else, from GOG.
They are charging you for what should rightly be abandonware. Many of 'thier' products have been Abandonware for years until some fatcats decided they wanted a lick of sugar and sold legally free games back to you.
Retail is theft. Do no support retailers. They did nothing to make or appreciate the games they sell. They are non-essential scum.
Don't trust developers who want fame or money. Do not support the circlejerk that is the GDC. Do not give credit to 'designers' who clamour for recognition. Do not support 'rights holders' who try to squeeze you for money.

I have been playing Warcraft 1 on an abandonware copy for years and have never, and will never, pay Blizzard or any retailer a dime for it. And I guarantee that I love the game more than any developer who made it. Are any of them still playing it 25 years after I got my first pirate copy? No.
Same for diablo.
Same for Starcraft.
I have never paid scum like David Crane or Jeff Minter or that vain fuck Warren Robinett for thier 'work' but I have played and loved their games. If they had any passion for what they do they would upload their games and source code for free. That goes for all devs.
Fuck GOG.

You love it more than any developer? Geez man...

If someone loves something they should do it for free? You realise how crazy that sounds?
