As I recall I think there were two separate parties attempting to replace the dialogue, outside of the translator, and both have gone quiet. I doubt we'll ever get this one and it's probably not worth worrying about.
As a Twin Peaks and Deadly Premonition fan, this hurts me.

ps1 (and saturn for that matter) hacking is a little more complex than the 8 and 16 bit consoles

there is far more effort required in most cases to do things like fan translations. it just isn't going to happen without enough funding to make it someone's job to do it

Its a debate that pops up once in a while, but one could learn japanese and never have to worry about translations, but some people get salty over the notion because the people who post the notion usually do so in a pretentious manner. Its still an option, but a lot if people just dont want to take the time to do so, which is their choice, but at the same time its a choice that would pay off in the long run. For one, you wouldnt be waiting for possible translations just for them to die along with your anticipation. There lot of salt surrounding the topic. Btw i dont know japanese, but i have to agree with the meme.

It's not that good of a game. Nothing untranslated is. Plenty of people have enough money to pay someone to translate it, or any other untranslated game, if they want. Anything good will be translated. It's that simple

The games have unsubbed cutscenes, so a dub is needed if you want to understand them unless you know japanese, in which case you wouldn't even need the translations.

Or it's because it's fucking absurd to expect someone to learn an entire god damned language when all they wanna do is play maybe a few games and watch a TV show or two that aren't currently translated. I could understand if they were telling a hardcore weeb this but it's insane to expect the average person who thinks some game looks neat to spend literally years to learn a language just to play that when they more than likely got tons of stuff in their own language they could go enjoy instead.
