What are some games that are like Star Fox 64? Chiefly, being a shmup with a 3rd person, behind the ship perspective, but bonus points if there are multiple routes and hidden exits like in SF64 as well. I know there's also Panzer Dragoon and, well... is that it?

I know someone will bring up Sin and Punishment, but that's too shooting gallery-style for my liking with the disjointed aiming and moving and the stop-and-go gameplay. I like the Star Fox style of always moving forward (makes you react to stuff before they pass you by) and having to turn your ship toward enemies to aim at them (adds a risk element).

Ah, yeah, I've played Space Harrier but not Afterburner. I should give that one a shot.

You also might like Tempest. It's not the same because you're not actually moving, but shit comes at you fast and the actual gameplay is kinda similar. Alao it's awesome, bonus for the PSX port

There were even other versions of it? That makes me sad. I played all through that piece of crap cause it came with my sega cd and I always thought it was one of the biggest turds I'd played.

There's Vanark on PS1, but it's kinda simplistic by comparison and costs a lot these days

3DO version has far better video quality. After all they did go through such efforts for all the live sets and elaborate miniature/motion control photography for the tunnel scenes, so might as well play a version where you can see a damn thing.
