What fuck is your obsession with CRTs? Is it because of your stupid scan-lines?

I always kept a CRT around. Recently a friend gave me a consumer Trinitron he didn't want so I replaced my old Sharp that was already kind of beaten up.
Anyway, what's your obsession about how other people play their games? Those of us who actually grew up during /vr/ times just played with these TVs. You know, there weren't HD screens back then.
I would argue that playing on SD displays is preferable for retro games, but it doesn't have to be a CRT, there are SD flat screens too.

>> No.5397314

As a kid I played games for several years on a shitty little black and white TV. I dreamed of the day I could play on a massive display.

Now I play all my retro games on a 65in HDTV and I'm quite pleased with the setup. I never noticed scan lines as a kid either. I love the raw pixel look.

Unfortunately yes. I fell for the Sony Trinitron meme like an idiot. I also bought an LG curve 4k.p Ultra HD.
With the LG curve I used this Atlona upscaler attached behind a converter. Resolution is so fucking beautiful.

Those things cost hundreds of dollars, don't they? I got my CRT TV for like $50 and it works great. Why would I replace it with some expensive piece of equipment that will probably add input delay? Maybe if my CRT breaks and there's no way to get a cheap and functional CRT to replace it I'd go the converter route, but not before then.

Because old games are low resolution and look bad on modern, high-resolution displays. They were designed with the limitations of the display technology of the time. Much like how older movies were made knowing that the effects and stage makeup on their actors wouldn't be obvious when viewed from a film projector or broadcast on television. When you watch an HD remaster of a old movie, you can see makeup lines, wires, matte painting lines; it looks terrible.

It doesn't have to look bad is what I'm saying. The fact that /vr/ makes it important for retro gamers to know that "if you don't go CRT, you're an autistic brainlet fucktard nigger faggot" is annoying. Other Retro game forums clown on /vr/ all the time for this.

I just have a 19-inch CRT on my desk, which is a good size for using from a couple feet away, and it only takes up space that I wasn't using prior to having it anyway. Why the hell you would even want a retro game blown up to 74 inches is beyond me.

>>5397446
Everyone in my area got rid of all their CRTs years ago. The few that remain get sold on craigslist and those people always know they can sell it with the "gaming" tag to inflate the price. Used electronics shops and thrift stores don't accept CRTs any more. I actually ended up getting my CRT on ebay for cheaper than I could find anywhere within 50 miles of my home.

It's all about the authentic retro experience. Retro games were made with CRTs in mind and it clearly shows. These TVs "hide" the imperfections of the limited hardware while accentuating the positives. They give them a distinct look and feel.

None of them are good quality but whatever. I wish I stole more PC CRTs when I had the chance. Someone let me into a store room full of old computer junk back in like 2005 and I took a single small CRT back home as people kept dumping them at this place and nobody wanted them.

As a zoomer, finally getting to have my own CRT feels like having a nice electronic fishtank sort of thing for vidya. Like it's a "playground box", in a way. It looks so warm compared to the coldness of playing them on the LED, even with upscalers, there's a piece missing in the image, and the CRT has that.
