Reduce enemy pain chance to zero to avoid entering actual pain state. Whenever the enemy takes damage, do a custom pain chance roll. Mechanically the enemies might function in a better way because they are a little smarter and less basic. The weapons are pretty good all around except the pistol, hyperblaster, and I think the grenade launcher is a bit too slow. All the good weapons are just as good if not better than the Quake 1 guns. You got to keep in mind Q1 didnt have a perfect weapon roster, I think its just familiarity. Overall Q2 is less memorable but the haters are way way too biased. I get liking one over the other but at the time, there was shit that was actually bad like Blood 2.

For games that were made to run on mobile phones pre-smartphones, they were pretty solid little games.

Most of that profit margin goes into the pockets of CEOs and buying out new companies.
The problem of EA and many that followed its example in the early days is that they rely on the stock investment to keep going, and their stocks are falling. The highlighted bump is because of Apex Legends (they had no involvement in), then it's a steady drop from there because Anthem. Unless they recuperate by SOMEHOW regaining trust of their customers - since trying to milk them more is unlikely to work as well as it did in the past now - the stock will keep falling down.

Investors do not invest into a stock that is going down, and without it such company can not stay afloat without bleeding resources that are otherwise needed to turn the situation around.
Another thing to consider is that people in charge do not even care if the company dies - they are going to fire all the "financial liabiliy", keep ludicrous ammount of money, and go on their merry way either dissolving/selling the company or leaving it a withered husk up for grabs for another big corporation.

This is what focusing on short-term goals with diregard of the future gets you.
Some companies however, prefer slow and steady approach with careful movement ahead, reasonably long term planning and measured introduction of innovations (Nintendo).

Relax mate, and read it again. I wouldn't have played JPCP to begin with, if I didn't expect great quality. Both Memento Moris are actually few of my favorite wads. They felt like official release back in 90s, thanks to their quality when compared to other wads of the time. Oh, Hexa is very good. His commentary is pretty comfy (although he has a habit of sometimes just talking for like 5+ minutes at the start of the video while just standing and doing nothing, but again, it's pretty comfy).
Most of his LPs are with "Complex Doom + LCA" (but not Clusterfuck) so if that's your thing it's good.
But has has done some non-Complex wads, like NeoDoom. Or, most prominently, he just got done with playing through Dark Tartarus (on livestreams, but he does upload both full and edited versions of the streams)
The most impressive thing about him is that he always pistol starts and never uses saves.
So he's pretty skillful at the game. And still there are plenty of fun moments and plenty of tense moments. Even some rage moments, if the map is bullshit enough, but he always manages to get through.

Well yeah, a well-designed arena with lots of cover as a boss-style encounter? That's awesome. Hell, I've seen people put Archviles in rooms in Doom 1 and I had an absolute blast.

But a blank, ordinary sewer corridor with no cover, just a room to run into and suck your thumb in? While 3 Archviles come from both directions? One or two levels a day at most. If you sit down to burn through an entire episode in one go, the repetitive nature of it can really set in.
The original 3 episodes are pretty alright, the Nocturnal Missions are kind of boring, and Spear Of Destiny is kind of ok (don't play the FormGen expansions).

Their drive to make interesting encounters on the maps they've made dies off and they just start spamming any old shit, which doesn't even create a good slaughtermap.

It's especially noticeable with full 30+ map wads where you can pretty much pinpoint where their enthusiasm for it dies off a bit and they're just carrying on out of a feeling of commitment to putting out that many maps.

Yes. Don't expect Doom-style run & gun action though. Everybody is a glass cannon, your weapons can one-shot most enemies and they can kill you very quickly (even quicker on hard mode). It's all about shootout-style peaking in & out of cover, and clearing out the baddies room by room.

I wouldn't call it bad for it, or anything (though one or two of the maps looked kind of dogshit), but New Gothic Movement started basically as just a good rough fight after another, harder than I was used to, but I found it was pretty fun, because the encounters were kind of inventive.
Then the level opens up to a pyramid stacked with cuntloads of enemies, and I realize here, this is not the kind of .wad that's for me, and that this is what happens when you go into a .wad blind.

I enjoyed it while it lasted, then after that I kind of just put on cheats and flew around looking at the maps, some which were pretty.

Here's a good recent example of maps getting lazy and replacing interesting level design with enemy spam. Eviternity map 14. There are multiple cramped arenas where you're just locked in and forced to survive wave after wave of enemies, following similar patterns (medium enemies -> tough enemies -> obligatory archvile). Very creative. Who the hell actually thinks that's fun? Does everyone not prefer actual level design? It's not even fun arena gameplay in the style of Serious Sam or Doom 4, there's barely any room to dodge or move in general.

I've never liked killing loads of monsters, I find it tiresome. My favorite aspect has always been the exploration. Look for the keys and kill stuff as you find your way to the exit, also secret hunting. I think I'm in the minority. Preacher did a great job with big monster counts IMO. Because for one thing, there's plenty of space to move around, and not too many lock-ins. I generally don't like slaughter either, but Eviternity has been alright even in those moments - they never feel overwhelming even if there is an army before you, and ammo with health replenishments are sufficient and clearly accessible without having to trial-and-error the encounter a few times to scout for them in the heat of battle.
