What are some point & click games with interesting premises and plots?

Full Throttle. Cavefish (pic) were so interesting. I love how you find out so little about them but they are compelling enough to really capture your imagination.

Just bought a game on GOG for less than 2 euro that's called "Rex Nebular and the Cosmic Gender Bender". I am enjoying myself thus far.

Bumping, want to see what kind of point & clicks /vr/ likes. I was introduced to them in the mid 90s by playing some Madeline game with my older sister. The only one that I've found that I like so far is Blade Runner.

Sanitarium has an interesting plot. I had no idea what was going on until the very end, and even then I still felt confused.

Loom?
I also enjoyed Shadow of the Comet and Prisoner of Ice. And Blade Runner.
And The Longest Journey. But I don't thing the last one qualifies as retro.

I just played through The Colonel's Bequest for the first time. The plot is rather generic but it has this really cool mystery vibe going on. The MT-32 soundtrack helps with that, especially the outdoors noises get the atmosphere just right. comfy/10

I don't like it. It has time limit and it limits your adventure/exploring.

Has a writer with an established career ever had such a large role in video game development? Alan Moore was actually interested in making a game project at one point as part of an ensemble of pieces until a gamedev told him that his ideas would require a massive budget.

I didn't see any way to fail in this game, beyond outright dying to some stupid mistake. The time limit provides some challenge and replayability here. And I really like how the events just keep unfolding regardless of what you do (maybe they happen in a different order depending on your actions? I'll have to play it a second time I guess), unlike any other point & clicks which progress in a strictly linear fashion.
What I didn't like was the limited text interpreter. You have to use very specific wording to get anything done, which often misleads you into thinking something won't work at all when you just didn't know the right combination of words the game expects you to use.

The Last Stand (flash game)

The trick is to use the shotgun and the uzi. All the other weapons are poison at the higher levels.

I've not played it but I hear the idea is that the game is supposed to be played several times to develop an idea of where you should be at a given time.

Being a Roberta Williams game it's bound to not be particularly well designed though. The Last Express is somewhat similar but with a time rewind feature that makes it more accessible

Is this a point&click game? It seems more like a clone of The Horde, with zombies.

You have to aim with your mouse and left-click to shoot, what's not point and click about it?

Disagree completely. The hunting rifle is very handy at higher levels, and once you get the .50 cal, the rest of the game is cake(small wonder you don't get it until the last stretch of the game). Pros have managed to win with the chainsaw even.

>>5401560
Try Last Stand 2 for more of the same, plus some. You have to not only manage time between barricade repairs and searching for survivors/weapons, but you also need to scrounge for supplies to travel from city to city to escape.
Last Stand Union City is a change from the 'tower defense' aspect of the first two, as it becomes more akin to a beat-em-up with guns. Objective is obviously to still escape, but it's also fun if you can get past the change in genre.
Last Stand Dead Zone is an MMORTS game, and...well, you can try it for yourself and see if you like it.

>Pros have managed to win with the chainsaw even.
Done that, but it's not fun hearing the saw that much, plus it's so hard it's not fun anymore.

>and once you get the .50 cal, the rest of the game is cake(small wonder you don't get it until the last stretch of the game).

It's game-breaking, makes the game too easy. It's more fun to uzi the zombie legs on the damn soldiers and try to shotgun as many others before they crowd your fence/fort.

Man, that game kicked my ass after a couple levels. Gotta say I like the first one better, but at least it exists. Now if I can find a downloadable version of the first game that isn't a virus.

I had no idea they existed. Thanks, man.

You're very welcome. Tip for DZ: build the F.U.E.L machine ASAP. That's your ticket to the premium currency for the rest of your playthrough.

1. Fair point on the saw. I play it a lot of the time without the sound, which has its pros(no saw noise) and cons(no sweet gunshot/rifle sounds).
2. Given that you don't really get the 50 cal until the end, it's appropriate. I've played with numerous other guns, and while you again make a solid point, the practice I put in with the other weapons allowed me to get to the point that I didn't have a problem(shit, I was actually able to shoot those army zombies in the FACE).
3. I think it kicked a LOT of people's asses the first time through. Going from an 80 hp barricade to a 30 hp one later in the game with tougher zombies is a nasty surprise. Add in that the traps are VERY hit and miss on whether they help, and...well, the sequel was very fun, but pretty poor in other respects. On the other hand, if you got the rocket launcher, lots of fun was had...

Doing a second playthrough now, it seems that time only advances when witnessing certain events. You can explore indefinitely as long as you stay out of rooms where the game progresses.
