No, Max Damage is the final release and it is rather good. Has C1 atmosphere and physics engine more advanced than C2 so it's a nice sandbox like the classic games. Sadly modding is way more restricted and not as easy. But the big problem is the overal optimisation, while it's better than during the Reincarnation stage, it can still perform poorly even on decent hardware. They should have used Unreal engine or something rather than their old inhouse tech.

>>5387482
Just a small cutscene when you beat the last level. There's no mission or boss fight. Devs could have made beating the Suppressor as the end.

You have a random chance to win a car if you destroyed it, but not every single one - just the ones that devs drew cockpits for.
Now, what's the actual number of cars you can add to the game? I think it starts to bug at the total of 48 or so.

Is this car in the Splat Pack impossible to unlock before beating the game or something?

The fact that it has its own cockpit and how it lacks a cheat banner on the car select menu suggests that its stealworthy, but I've never been able to unlock it even though I made sure that it was in every race from when it starts appearing all the way to the final race.

There's indeed a limit of 48 car slots in the savefile, if you add more cars the game will try to write additional slots in the savefile and overwrite skill level and other settings resulting in such a save to always be set to easy difficulty. There's a patch to avoid that problem (http://www.cwaboard.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=9630 ) but then additional cars will only be available with a savefile with the game set as beaten.

Also no that /vr/ pack hasn't got the Splat Pack content merged in. Anons weren't too fond of it. HD execs can be added over the Meldpack either manually or via QTZ's patch.

>>5388673
IIRC Stodge Barger isn't 'stealworthy'.

>>5388725
IMO the PSX version is very decent, and gamers who first discovered the series with this installment like it. Lots of original content which was nice. The cars unique to the PSX version are available for C1. Some tracks are available for C1 and C2.

>> No.5389568

Carmageddon is a satisfying addicting dumb fun game... I spend hundreds of hours in it as a kid, killing all the peds in all the levels.

The game would be so much better if:

1) AI was better
2) You had a chance to randomly earn ALL cars

Also Splat Pack was such a disappointment. I had a one level demo as a kid, the medieval castle thing, and that one is a great level, but there is only like 2-3 great levels in Splat Pack and the rest is shit.

Reincarnation was a buggy unfinished mess... But Frankly, Max Damage is amazing. It's the best in the series. Too bad by the time it finally came out on Steam I had played Reincarnation so much I barely felt like it anymore.

Cool. I beat Carma many times so i don't really mind booting a complete save just to have fun with additional cars.
>Anons weren't too fond of it
Why is that? Looks like i missed some /vr carma history there.

>> No.5390034

I've only played 1 for a little while, and it's just kinda weird. You have these big open maps that beg to be explored, but only a tiny bit of it is the actual track. If you race it normally, the level will be done in like 3 minutes. If you go to crash everyone, it doesn't really matter what the map has in it because you're just ramming people into whatever wall is closest. I guess the exploration part comes in if you want to kill every pedestrian, but that means your opponents could win by finishing the race, and the very idea seems so fuckin tedious I'd never want to try it anyway.

Maybe it's a game that comes into its own in multiplayer where players could actively hunt each other down, but it still seems like if another player was clear across the map, their opponent would just go back to the track and finish the race. So why bother straying far from the track?

If it was just a destruction derby in a big map, it'd make more sense to just run around and see what the map has to offer while chasing or being chased by whoever happens to be closest in that part. But why have the race part at all?

There's this patch that restores Carma95 along with many other tweaks onto the GOG/Steam releases too: http://qtz.toshiba-3.com/uMaxPack95RPP.zip (basically the same thing as the pack posted above).
Carma95 performance should be better than the release with DOSBox, but yeah your mileage may vary.

The Carmageddon series are sandbox games for you to enjoy roaming around and creating all kind of chaos/mayhem and eventually finish the race.
About the racing part, have you tried racing on hard difficulty? Been a long time but I reckon it must become quite challenging as you progress through the "career".

It was cute, dumb fun.
Did any of you actually try to beat the levels "as God intended" meaning legitimately trying to race your opponents, running laps and finishing up on a first place? Instead of immediately going off-the-track trying to murder all the pedestrians and/or other opponents?
I finished some the levels trying to race ny way to victory and could never shake off the feeling that the game is disappointed in me.

The AI doesn't try to race you, that's the issue.

That's why I said Max Damage was better, AI is better, with the different game modes, like pure race, they actually behave that way. The different game modes also give a reason to use different cars.

My point is just that the race part seems superfluous and takes away from the sandbox exploration of the big maps. As long as someone can win by completing the race, why risk playing around on the other side of the map and giving the other racers that chance? If there was no race, there'd be a reason to go putz around - everyone would be running around the map trying to find and kill each other, so you'd explore the map either to find them or to go bash barrels to get powerups to making killing them easier.
