Is this game worth playing? Sort of just looks like a text-adventure/space invaders version of Mass Effect but a couple of people told me its good.

Absolutely. The more you know the better they can *smell* you.

It's much better than bioware's dating sim in space (which ripped off this game series) and has a more coherent plot, too.

in what universe? what has come after that even compares?

He said dating sim, it's a genre that simulates going on dates. He didn't mean it seemed outdated. I also just realized the etymological relationship between "dating" and "dates" haha

should 1 be played first? and where can i find these?

imho start with 2, also known as Ur-Quan Masters, simply because it's creators made it open source.

>version of Mass Effect
Mass Effect is a version of this. It's basically a remake.
Yes it's worth playing.

Starting with one isn't necessary. 1 primarily focused on ship to ship combat, not much of a story line.

Google the Ur-Quan Masters for an up to date, free, legal copy of SC2.

I loved the story, dialog and ship to ship combat but I hated the tedious grinding of

>go to hyperspace, takes fuel
>go to new system, takes fuel
>land on planet, takes fuel
>collect a few coloured dots with the rover
>return to bottom left corner of map to sell coloured dots
>barely break even
>get spanked by unskippable battles with boring crystal dudes
>ragequit

I had to hack the game to give me massive starting funds to get past the tedium

Hell yes, it's in the top 10 games ever made and absolutely essential for anyone who considers themselves a "retro gamer".

If you play the original Star Control (your best bet is the Genesis version, by cart or emulation) you'll appreciate the plot of Star Control 2 more. And the original is a fun little two player game.

But those are the game's RU piñatas...

One of the best games ever made. One of the best soundtracks ever made.

Man I played this game so much that I could solve the copy protection coordinate check from memory.
