ITT: we recommend good games to other anons

I had never heard of this game until recently and it’s a lot of fun
It had like 87 ports so I’m curious why I’ve never seen it mentioned on here

They went way too far with cutesifying and anime-ifying this game and completely lost the nuance or atmosphere of the computer originals.

That's not how you do it OP. That's low effort shit. Here's how you do a recommendation thread.

EGA Trek (DOS) 1989. This shit started life as a 70's mainframe game played by college techies. Eventually someone sued over the "Star Trek" name so they changed enough to be safe. EGA Trek was about the final release of a version of this game, and probably the prettiest. 16 colors is still a step up from black and white.

You take control of your totally-not-enterprise, and go around clearing mongols(klingons) out of 8x8 space sectors. Everything is done with typed commands. You have lasers which eat power, and nine torpedos you can get reloaded when you visit starports. Visiting a starport also does repairs on your ship faster than you can do them yourself in space. You can find planets and send down exploration teams to find things that may be of value to you, and you also command a death ray that has a chance of blowing up your own ship. Launching torpedos into stars can create supernovas and black holes. Play on the hardest difficulty for the full experience.

I don't even like fucking Star Trek and this game is awesome.

It's an okay puzzle game. The problem is that there's way too few puzzle elements and so it gets boring quickly.

I need to play one of these later versions because I've only played earlier Star Trek ones and they're decently fun, but that screenshot looks fantastic.

The original game has a lot of thought put into it especially the SFX, which are all designed to create a claustrophobic feel of being trapped in a cave/mine full of boulders that could flatten you at any moment.

The NES version is just too cute (especially the music) and lacks any sense of tension. I mean, stuff like the GOOD message and Rockford doing a little happy dance when you get to he end of the level. It's just...no.

First Star Software have a reputation of being Nintendo tier of litigious but without the reputation to back it up.
