US SNES controllers > JPN SFC controllers with short cable length.

US SNES console < JPN SFC console. US version looks like two cake pans glued together. We missed out.

I wish there were convex buttons in purple so I could make the best feeling and looking controller. Basically a us controller minus concave buttons.

SFC is definitely the most A E S T H E T I C.

I'll never understand people who think the SFC looks good. It's like a featureless blob of slightly melted plastic. The SNES may not be the prettiest console in the world but at least it has some kind of character.

Not without modding the motherboard. There is a piece of plastic on it where the AC adaptor goes. That piece is different on both and won't fit on the other without some mod work.

>That piece is different on both and won't fit on the other without some mod work.
You sure? I don't have a PAL SNES on hand right now to check, but the back panels look like they're the same size and shape. If they are, you should be able to swap the rest of the shell
If they're not the same shape though... yeah, it would take a time-consuming mod. Replacing a SNES power jack requires replacing or heavily modifying the back panel, because the original jack is molded into the plastic itself. You have to replace the entire panel if you want to keep the original style jack, and you have to carefully cut the original jack and remove all of the surrounding plastic to replace it with a different jack. I did two this weekend and it's not hard, but it's very tedious and time-consuming.
Of course the reset button and front panels are also different, so you might need to make few modifications to those areas too...
Maybe I should get another PAL SNES and try this. It sounds fun.

OP here. Wow, a lot more intelligent discussion than I was expecting lol.

Personally I’m a big fan of the North American console and controller, the blocky system, the concave buttons, the purple, though I also really like the sleek and colorful design of the Japanese/pal system.
Both look great, but very different, can’t really choose a favorite.

The US SNES is pretty underrated as of late. Very nice aesthetics all around, the purple/light purple color scheme is really tasteful.
In a way, it reminds me of Freeza.

You mean like pic related? This was a common problem among old consoles and PCs, including ALL regions of the snes. It’s the result of a chemical reaction caused by sunlight and the boron used in cheap plastic from the 80s and 90s.
Get a big plastic tub, fill it with water and hydrogen peroxide, take apart the snes, clean the plastic, drop the plastic in the tub, seal the tub, and let it sit in direct sunlight for about a day or so. Should look as good as new afterwards.

>> No.5378654

Yeah. I guess I meant yellow not green.

>> No.5378719

The flame retardant additive in the plastic is a boron compound. Over the years through oxidation (sunlight helps) it breaks down which causes the color.

This.
That’s why you should always do the hydrogen peroxide treatment on yellow plastic , even if you’re going to spray paint the thing.
