Paper Mario Thousand Year Door is exactly like that and I know jarpig haters are going to laugh at this statement but that game has the smartest writing I've seen in any game. Extremely charming and clever.

DQ was always shti. Why do people pretend it's somehow better than Final Fantasy when in fact it manages to be even more generic, easy and boring somehow. The games are indistinguishable from each other apart from the clothes Toriyama made Goku wear each time around.

I loved Super Mario RPG as a kid and still enjoy it now. That being said, I tried to play Earthbound recently and just could not get into it. I really, really wanted to like it and got the first 3 melodies, but I'm just not having fun. It feels like such a slog.

Turn based games are great because you can live a normal fucking life and use them as a way to pass the time occasionally. Real time games, and considering yourself a "gaming enthusiast" or a "gamer" is just disgusting.

Why do you think the most childish console manufacturer (Nintendo) is also the only Japanese manufacturer lacking in AAA JRPG development? Because their games are for children, just like anything else that's real time.

A step up to what? Requiring constant attention? That's a bad thing, and the reason that video games are mostly associated with unsuccessful nerds. There is no benefit of any kind to having the ability to press the button at the right time. If you devote time to "improving" at a video game, you're wasting time. Games are for fun and to pass time that isn't already being used for something positive.

JRPGs are well-designed so any salaryman, or other person with a busy life not devoted to video games, can pick them up and put them down as needed while making strategic decisions. There is no requirement to stay at your console or computer any longer than you wish to, there is no negative to interrupting the experience. This is very important if you have a wife, children, a full time job, real hobbies, and friends. The lack of online multiplayer is also crucial – the effect real-time online multiplayer games have had on people by tricking them into thinking they're having a social experience while sitting alone interacting with pixels has already been incredibly damaging to everyone who has grown up with it.

I think I'm qualified to say JRPGs are irredeemable trash. Only good JRPGs are those that stray away from everything people love about JRPGs, e.g. FromSoftware's titles, Vagrant Story, Shin Megami Tensei.
